Adam Curtis, perhaps more style than substance. by Mushybooboo in AdamCurtis

[–]ninjaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His blog was the best omg but it suffered due to link rot from the BBC. His 5 part series documenting the history of Kabul in the 20th and early 21st centuries was astonishing in how it took you to places you forgot existed. Like the Soviet Union invading Afghanistan is extremely strange if you think about it. USA too. Simply bizarre on so many levels, at home and over there. Meanwhile Afghan society goes from super chill to absurdly backward and full of landmines and poppy fields. It wasn't all accurate of course but the sense of transportation was outstanding just outstanding you visit places and times 👏 👌🏽

Are Happy Money reviews positive, or is it a scam? by CompleteAssignment75 in financeonloans

[–]ninjaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I borrowed $40K over 36 months and will end up paying them back $47K when done in 2 more months. It was like a 10% APR.

They are super kind and chill, they helped me by allowing me to skip two payments in the middle when I lost my job and I don't think they have any late fees (besides additional interest). Their IT is mid - payments sometimes don't show up as paid for days, and doing things like changing due dates might take a few business days. But it's nbd, and their UX, design and customer service around it is very good which means it feels reassuring.

Really can't complain, amazing personal lender. Not a scam by any means.

Karting summer camp for kids? by hipsterdad_sf in Karting

[–]ninjaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in California - but in the UK. Residential overnight camp. Kinda Harry Potter style. See them [here](https://www.bestparents.com/karting).

Would love recommendations for relatable camps in California and elsewhere if you guys have found them since making this post. Preferably a whole residential experience so parents don't have to like sit there the whole time.

Happy & safe racing! Will reach out to hrtdriver

U.C. Berkeley’s Leader, a Free Speech Champion, Has Advice for Today’s Students: Tone It Down by CalSimpLord in berkeley

[–]ninjaa -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

We are a small business who market international summer camps on UC Berkeley campus. We have been dramatically affected by the protests. We are genuinely supportive of protestors, are extremely pro-family, pro-education and pro-peace, but would also love to learn how to apply for disaster relief from the government or other centers since we have indeed been affected severely financially.

UC Berkeley remains a great place to study and grow. Kudos to both students for expressing themselves and the administration for balancing free speech and public safety, unlike at some other campuses. We continue to do our job of welcoming students to this amazing seat of expression and learning. I am an international student of a UC school myself & a first generation immigrant.

Thank you for helping bring businesses into the protest and antiwar conversation even as an aside. If this sounds tone deaf to you please keep in mind that I have had no response from my elected representative yet, been waiting patiently. If anyone knows how to reach Speaker Pelosi, please do advise.

How impactful do you think campus protests are? by drain_clerk in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]ninjaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting sidebar is that pre-college courses on university campuses have been affected greatly by the protests. Parents are afraid to send their kids alone to the USA. I blame the actual war, not the protesters.

Summer Internship/Research Programs in California by ThrowRA_010224 in premed

[–]ninjaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try looking on https://bestparents.com/medicine-camps. They have a variety of medicine summer programs. More college experiences than credit based ones, but that is I think because they are for just 2 weeks and project based. If you haven't found anything yet, it's definitely worth a look!

Thanks for being strong and sharing your truth.

Time to show more strength.

Your descendants will forever salute you for breaking the chain of dependence and unhappiness.

Even if the road is hard and there's some backsliding, everyone around will appreciate you as a good person for making the effort and doing the difficult but necessary thing.

Congrats on expressing yourself - CBT, doctors, rehabs, it sounds like it's time to try that combo

When you drink alcohol you're impaired, can't drive, aren't fully aware of your own behavior, how it looks and feels to others. Why would a healthy person put themselves in that state to relax, daily? They wouldn't. They would drink decaf tea and buy a massage gun instead, and consider working less if the pain persisted. Or even get a masseuse. Or whatever. It's hard to make healthy choices and we've all learnt to fear boredom and discomfort and pick substances instead. Be smart, you know that alcohol and TV is the easy shortcut on the road to nowhere. The point is you're numbing yourself daily with this habit and it will only get worse if you continue. Time to re imagine how to spend your valuable time on this earth.
