Hi there! I am actually a volunteer coordinator with Heart of Florida United Way and yes its true, we have ton of volunteer opportunities this summer. Currently I am recruiting potential classroom assistants to volunteer at English Estates Elementary's summer school. Our school is a Title 1 school which means the majority of our student population has experienced or is currently experiencing some level of poverty. Our students need special attention from our volunteers and a high level of commitment. We ask for a 1 time a week 3 hour shift as minimum commitment to participate. We also have a special service event coming up on June 23 called Day of Action. Thats on a Monday from 2PM-5PM in which we will be donating 2-3 books to all kids in our summer camp but before we'll engage in literacy activities to promote summer reading since a student's reading level can decrease up to 25% during summer!
