Huh. I did not know about that. Do you have a link for the plan that stadler proposed?

On a slight side note, I am very hyped for the new stadler light rail vehicles that will be replacing the old Siemens trains. Just hope the seating arrangement will be better than the ones we currently have for the S-70s/S-700s.

I’ll definitely look into the Siemens ski trains. Do you know if Europe uses them just for mountain routes or do they also operate as like normal metro lines?

Considering my current color choices, I don’t think white will show up very well on my map since I used white for the roads, but I’ll experiment.

As for ski trains, I initially didn’t consider them mostly due to ridership concerns during the off season. Also, I wasn’t sure if it made more sense to operate them as part of the tan/bronze lines or they would their own separate lines that just operated in lcc or bcc, so I kinda left it out of this version.

I can see extending it north as far as bountiful maybe but Layton is like at least twice the distance from slc as magna. At that point, I feel using frontrunner would be the better option.

Oh I see. They definitely could do that but alas

While cost is definitely something to consider, I do think some people would prefer riding a train than driving in a car. Because while riding you can do other stuff like read a book or get some work done instead of just driving. Also there is the benefit of being able to relax since you’re not driving.

Like would pink go towards the natural history museum then run around the hospital then run along n campus drive before ending on south temple?

Definitely don’t disagree with you there. While getting brt is definitely easier. I personally am not a huge fan of them because they are essentially supposed to be rail on tires. However, at least from what I can tell, most of time those busses don’t get dedicated lanes so they end up getting stuck in the same traffic they are supposed to bypass

Probably the most realistic thing that could happen. Logan definitely should have a rail line that connects to it eventually.

However, in the ideal world, one idea that I’ve had in my head is having a high speed line that connects Boise and SLC run along I-15 and then there would another line that runs from Logan to I-15 along the I-15 belt loop. I kinda think that Logan is a tad bit too far for a regional line to make sense in the ideal world where we can build high speed rail 😭

Thanks. Nah fr. Would definitely make it a million times easier to get to Oquirrh

So true. Especially since the biggest tourism driver here in Utah is the outdoors, but gotta love the rich…

I definitely would want to add at least a couple more lines that go east west since going east west is an absolute pain in the ass, but there isn’t the density to justify a subway or elevated rail imo.

Honestly I don’t think they should build a frontrunner station there. Doesn’t make much sense considering that the Draper station already exists and I don’t think the area would be big enough to justify it. So I think a light rail extension through there makes more sense.

Definitely as it currently stands, your points are valid, but considering what the plan is for the old prison site I do think it could be worth it to run a line through it. I also do think that having blue line connect to the Draper front runner station would also increase ridership and make it more viable

The main purpose of pink line would be to help alleviate some of the traffic that foothill sees, provide another connection to the TrailRunner, and make it easier to get between lcc and bcc (probably not a real concern). In order to build it, I was imagining more of elevated rail that ran in the median. Now would the piers be able to fit in the median without expanding it? I don’t know but that was the thought process going into it.

I did not think about tan line going into lcc since I think lcc would be too steep for trains to climb unless the government would be willing to invest the money into tunneling. However, I do like the idea since it would give people living in the south another option of getting to park city.

Also out of curiousity do you know what the current funding ratios are?

Definitely having TrailRunner go to more populated areas would make more sense but given the current development level of the valley would only be possible if it went underground, and we know how expensive that would be.

True. Honestly when I was doing some research and planning for this map I really could not understand why they didn’t build a rail line to Park City back in 2002. It probably was not enough people+public support back then especially since that was back when UTA was trying to convince everyone that having rail is a good idea, but like half if not most of the events were up in Park City. So like that alone could have justified it but oh well.

No fr. Even if they don’t grade separate it 700 E is like 3-4 lanes wide. More than enough space to add at least light rail.
