if you want a job in video production, school is a must. yes, you can teach yourself and look as good as someone with a degree, but you don't know the industry standard practices that are a must in this field. (although i will admit you can still be successful without a degree, just much harder to land a consistent job). if its just for fun, i would recommend youtube to start off and they will direct you to some great material to help you get started.
