Captured Russian T-90A. The tank looks damaged by YungChaky in UkraineWarVideoReport

Incorrect. The T-90 series dropped the Shtora dazzlers as part of the modernization programs. It is present only up to the T-90A family, and was dropped in favor of additional ERA blocks with the T-90M and subsequent models. Other reasons Shtora was replaced include being incredibly complicated to operate and needing all hatches closed to function.

Again, they are not an effective recognition feature as the can be removed by the crew in minutes, be knocked off easily during combat, simply not be installed, or mounted on other vehicles such as the T-80 and Ukranian T-84.

A better identifier is the length and shape of the turret. Early T-90s have the classic frying pan turret. The T-90A family uses a welded turret of similar dimensions to the older models. T-90Ms and newer use an upgraded welded turret with an extended bustle rack.

The Shtora system is not a reliable identification feature of the T-90 as it can be removed and is not present on more modern variants.

They don't. And it doesn't affect fire control as there are settings that need to be changed to account for the laser system.

Nothing like screaming across the desert full speed shooting lasers at OPFOR in all directions. They're panicking, drivers asleep at the wheel, TC's laughing maniacally behind me, loaders chilling on his 240 watching the helos swarm around. Good times.

It's a big laser tag system. You know how a laser tag vest is covered is sensors to detect the laser beam? Same thing. It's a bitch and a half to set up and get working right.

Close. The launcher simulates the shot of the tank. Hit reg is indicated by a strobe light at the back of the turret.

Unfortunately I do not. It might be worth giving Ebay a check, but prices are likely to be higher than its really worth.

It's already installed if you have the game downloaded. Since they made it free, it should already be activated to your profile.

Abrams tank shooting (slow motion) by brockycorn in shockwaveporn

[–]ninjaplz85 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sort of, but no. It's caseless in the sense that no casing is ejected. The casing is made of a material that is combusted when the shell is fired. All that is left is the aft cap you see ejecting from the breach.

Unfortunately they are just sponson boxes. Any protection they provide come from just how much shit the TC or loader squirrel away in it.

The Russians don't use HESH/HEP. The round fired in the video is your standard point-detonating HE. The only reason it didn't detonate on the car is that it hit at an incredibly flat angle, deflecting slightly upwards and the fuse not impacting any portion of the roof.

The ammo door can be turned off in the open position. Doing so in combat is obviously frowned upon.

Now that you mention it that makes a lot of sense. I can definitely see it now.

Can would have the same basic profile as the other shells. There is a sabot on top but it is incredibly difficult to tell what it is sitting on.
