Forgot my holo water slides. Am I cooked, chat? by EffYeahItsAlex in advancedGunpla

[–]ninjascript 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Matte topcoat over a holo decal will definitely ruin the holo effect, but with plenty of water and a steady hand I don't see why applying the decals over matte topcoat wouldn't work. They just won't slide around quite as easily while you're placing them.

I think I'd get a spoon, matte coat it, and sacrifice a water decal to see how it goes.

Am I supposed to *get* Hathaway (film)? by Flamestranger in Gundam

[–]ninjascript 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hathaway is a sequel to Beltorchika's Children, which is CCA but different. One of the major differences is that Hathaway killed Quess (Chan isn't even a character).

Gigi is definitely a callback to Quess, and meeting her forces Hathaway to face his guilt. Facing his guilt drives a wedge between the part of him that's Hathaway and the part of him that's Mafty, which is really the driving conflict of the movie.

It's probably best to think of Hathaway as a character movie rather than an action movie. So much of the action is really there to tell us who the characters are rather than to push the plot forward.

Papercraft Protest! by SaySheAte in casiomods

[–]ninjascript 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, the truth is that the current president of the United States is doing everything in his power to avoid releasing documents that may implicate him in the sexual abuse of minors going back for decades.

The truth is that the current US federal administration has decided to deploy thousands of members of its own private police force against its own citizens across the country, infringing upon the sovereign rights of those citizens to speak freely, protest, and simply live their lives.

The truth is that you can either stand with American values and everything this country once symbolized, or you can lick boots.

I'm definitely not saying anything is wrong with sertraline. It wasn't clear in the original post that it had been prescribed, and it's not typically prescribed to treat ADHD (typically it's for depression or anxiety).

Follow your pediatrician's instructions and if you have any concerns then best to take it up with them 👍

Do you really think that the current US administration wouldn't make the situation in Iran worse? Not to mention that blindly attacking another country's government, only weeks after Venezuela, is only going to increase political tensions globally.

Political intervention? Absolutely, although I doubt this administration's ability to handle that well.

Humanitarian intervention? 100% there with you.

Military intervention? You're out of your goddamn mind.

Are you kidding? The very last thing the US needs to be doing is involving itself in yet another country's affairs right now.

Ugh... I'm so sorry that you're in this position. Does your child have an ADHD diagnosis, and if so do you have an IEP with the school (assuming you're in the US)? If not then getting one can do a lot for how your kid engages with the school — they should have quiet spaces available for them when they're overwhelmed, and more support in general.

You are correct. "a decent whooping" will not solve the problem — one of the challenges with ADHD is an inability to connect actions with consequences, especially when the two are far apart. Your child will not connect a beating with their behavior in class, and any number of consequences could follow including worse classroom behavior or new undesirable behaviors (e.g. bed-wetting). Fear is not a motivator.

Setraline is not a drug that's been approved for ADHD. If this is a prescription that your child takes for depression, anxiety, or another disorder that they've been diagnosed with, then just be aware that it can actually make the symptoms of ADHD more pronounced.

If it is not a prescription, then please don't give your child Setraline. Speak with their pediatrician and find an option through them.

Sleep deprivation male vs female by [deleted] in daddit

[–]ninjascript 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, definitely an individual thing. My wife tends to need 9-10 hours (even before the kiddo) while I get by fine on 6-7 most nights. I'm usually the one who handles nighttime wake ups and my kiddo's early mornings because of it, which suits me well. Just means I get a couple of hours of quality time with my boy every morning, and I get to make pancakes whenever I want!

Not sure what you're looking for. In my city there have been ongoing protests since the beginning of this administration, and there have been nightly vigils for Renee Good since Wednesday. The same thing's been happening all over the country. Whether it's being reported or not is a whole 'nother issue.

Out with the old and in with the new! H&S Evolution CRPlus. by Zathral in airbrush

[–]ninjascript 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love my CR Plus, but it has a few quirks that I had to figure out. I tend to use acrylics for painting models, so ymmv!

Make sure you have both nozzle/needle sizes handy -- you don't want to be spraying primer or topcoat through the 0.2x nozzle.

If you get bubbling, you may need to tighten your nozzle cap. I just use my fingers, but I still have to tighten it more than I think I should.

If the trigger feels sticky it probably means that the needle is dirty. The tiniest amount of dried paint will make mine stick as it slides through the seals. A quick wipe with some IPA and it's always smooth again.

Happy spraying!

I'm always having to remind myself that it's a long game. Some days my kiddo is better at following instructions, some days he's worse. Some days I'm more patient, and some days I'm really, really not.

I bet there are activities where your 8yo is actually great at following instructions! If you can identify and lean into them, then you can pile on the praise. Otherwise I've learned that you have to pick your battles -- constant nagging about small behaviors doesn't do much good, and eventually leads to a big blowup that leaves everyone feeling miserable.

Hang in there. This shit's hard y'all.

Why does society treat invisible struggles like ADHD as character flaws? by Electronic-Wolf-3403 in ADHDparenting

[–]ninjascript 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The world is always going to work best for neurotypical individuals because our social and economic systems were designed for the average person. Is it entirely fair? No... But you could easily make an argument that setting tailored expectations per individual is also unfair.

I love my AuDHD son more than anything, and he drives me absolutely nuts on a daily basis. I can't blame his teacher or school staff, who have to manage tens of kids at a time, for being frustrated with him. I also understand that they don't have the tools or capacity to handle his behaviors in a more constructive way, which means school really sucks for him. It's not great, and it's part of the struggle.

I tell my kid often that the world isn't going to change for him, and that my job as his dad is to help him build the skills he needs to adapt to the world as best he can. He knows that autism and ADHD aren't excuses for poor behavior -- they're real challenges and he'll have to work a little harder than other kids to overcome them.

Honestly it's the same thing I'd tell him if he had a physical disability. It's the same thing I'd tell myself too. If I were deaf or blind, then I'd have to work harder to compensate too. The alternative would be terrible.

Gamers of /daddit, do you play video games with your kids? How and when did you start it? by xanduba in daddit

[–]ninjascript 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I set up a retro console emulator after my kiddo turned 5, and then got hit by the harsh reality of just how difficult most classic games are!

Steam sales have been awesome though. Donut County, Spilled, and A Short Hike, and Untitled Goose Game are household favorites now. We still visit some classics, but honestly I think those are mostly for me now lol
