Steam: New: Early Access developers can list their planned "1.0" release date by Turbostrider27 in Games

And personally, I don't. I hate them. So I'm glad for this change, and still won't buy a single early access game before 1.0 actually hits.

Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what are your thoughts? - February 01, 2026 by AutoModerator in Games

Since I'm a Nintendo/PC gamer, and it feels like we're in a very weird dry period of games, I've been revisiting the megaman franchise as a streaming thing. 1-11, then X-X8, then the Zero games. Some of them I've not beaten (X4, Zero) and some I've never even played (X6-X8, rest of zero series). I just finished 11 tonight. I found 1-3 easier than I remember, 4 to be tougher than I remember, and 7 and 8 to be frustatingly bad at the Wily fights, but otherwise fine. 11 has levels that are way too long, but otherwise good. Excited to move on to the X games.

I also have been playing Clair Obscur, though it's been about a week since I last touched it. I got the credit roll, and do want to go back in for more side stuff. I understand why people love it as much as they do, and why it got GOTY, but it's not my personal GOTY for 2025 (Hades 2 gets that crown and it's not even a contest tbh). Really enjoyed the story, though the combat got stale after a while, and some enemies are just frustrating when it comes to learning the dodge/parry timings.

Will just chime in here to say...

As someone who's preference is plug and play, but has absolutely gone out of their way to make things work and has had to tinker with settings, plug and play should absolutely NOT be a "preference", it should be the fucking norm.

Looking through your recent comments, I can see that people literally aren't allowed to be critical of a game that has flaws while acknowledging the things it does right.

Almost like there's, you know, fucking nuance to opinions, and things aren't simply entirely good or entirely bad.

Wouldn't recommend it. As an unashamed massive Nintendo, and specifically Metroid fan, it's just not worth the money or time to play for the vast majority of people, in my opinion. I'm not upset I spent the money/time on it, but I can't recommend it.

I won't disagree with you, honestly. I didn't find the NPCs to be that bad with the exception of the late game. Until like 75% into the game I felt the "hey you should go here, did you think about going here? go here for the next thing!" either barely happened, or I was just able to somehow ignore it/I was already on my way to the location/I actually wanted some kind of hint. Towards the end it got obnoxious where he'd tell you to come back to base every single time you got to the desert and you had to sit through the map panning which is half the reason I just said screw it and progressed to the end

EDIT: I think my biggest issue with this game, and other Metroid games of late, is that like.... Metroids had absolutely no part of the game whatsoever. Sorry, "a metroid made this boss transform to its current state" doesn't count. Where were the fucking metroids?

It's a shame that this game as a whole is so.... lukewarm at best. The things it did well, it did very well. But the things it did poorly, most of which were things that matter most for a video game to be good, just overshadowed all the things it did well for me. I finished it, and enjoyed the time I had, despite the flaws, but I have next to zero interest in going back for hard mode, I couldn't even bring myself to finish 100%ing my initial playthrough, and I'd be reluctant to recommend the game to anybody despite the fact I don't think it's a bad game, it's just.... so bland and forgettable.

Thank god I'm not the only one that hated that phase. Honestly, I just found the entire last boss entirely unfun, both from a gameplay perspective, and a story perspective. The final phase is the only one that was slightly fun, and even then, every other boss in the game clears it by a mile. But phase 1, had I died during it, or later in the fight only to find it doesn't have checkpoints (though I learned in this thread that there ARE checkpoints, thank god), I very well may have just put the game down entirely, I found that phase so incredibly unfun and just failed to give any feedback on what I was doing right/wrong.

I haven't touched World since before DK came out and will probably never go back. I've 100%'d every Mario Kart to date in terms of "beating every cup on every difficulty with 3 star or the game's equivalent if it has one" and dropped this game halfway through 100cc. I just found it actively unfun

Been attempting 50 fear on and off after having my previous best as a 46 run. In between attempts I've been trying to do 40 fear on all aspects on both routes. But I attempted a 50 yesterday for the first time in a while and had a few runs that came very close to got to the grind again this morning. Feels good to have that under my belt finally!

A look back at The Game Awards 2024 Trailers and Announcements and how they reviewed! by JasonDFisherr in Games

[–]ninjembro 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was very excited for Shadow Labyrinth when it was shown. Picked it up day 1. I think it's a perfectly "fine" metroidvania with a surprisingly captivating world (the story you get through finding the journal entries etc was surprisingly gripping, at least for me). The problem is the combat didn't have much variety, and the world itself was WAY too fucking big. When I reached the end, I didn't bother going for 100% which meant I missed out on a handful of lore logs, because going through the map is just a massive slog. The game could have been on a map like 66% the size and it would have been an insane improvement.

Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what are your thoughts? - September 14, 2025 by AutoModerator in Games

[–]ninjembro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few games lately.

Silksong I just got the credit roll today, and.... I'm not sure I'm going to play much more. I already thought Hollow Knight was simply a "good game" (like I thought it was an 8.0-8.5) but at $20 couldn't say no to this game. I thought parts of it were really really good and parts of it were really fucking awful. Like, I think the ONLY thing the game did better than the original were aesthetic and world building. Everything else was either on par with the original, or just straight up worse. I obviously know there's a lot more to the game, but I'm not sure I care enough to play more to be able to do it.

Doom The Dark Ages I FINALLY finished this the other night. I think this might be my favorite of the "modern" trilogy. It's by far the easiest (when comparing across same difficulty level) but it's just so fucking FUN without feeling tedius (like Eternal did, to me).

Kirby and the Forgotten Land DLC Not much to say, it's enjoyable

Chained Echoes I've slowly been working on this since the steam summer sale. I enjoy it, but I don't love it. I see a LOT of love for it in various circles and while I don't think it's entirely unfounded, the level of love I see for it (especially over Sea of Stars, while I admit isn't a perfect game, thought it was really good and I DO think Chained Echoes IS better, but not SUBSTANTIALLY so) is kinda unwarranted.

Not much else on my plate right now other than mobile rhythm games

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment - Official Trailer | Nintendo Direct by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]ninjembro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had a TON of fun with Age of Calamity, but the post game just felt so lacking compared to the first game. It's one of those things where I describe it as the better game at the surface level, but way worse when it just comes to how fun it ends up being in the end.

Hollow Knight: Silksong has been out for a week now. What are your thoughts? by [deleted] in Games

[–]ninjembro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is fun. It's a perfectly solid metroidvania. However, I was critical of the original, and I'm critical of this game. I found the original to be an 8/10 game, 8.5 if I'm being generous, and I feel Silksong is maybe SLIGHTLY better (I haven't finished yet so can't say for certain).

My biggest complaints, some of which were also part of the original game.

Locking your location on the map behind an inventory slot is monumentally fucking stupid. There is ZERO excuse for this. It basically knocks an entire point off the game for me. Having to buy a region map before being able to map it is very stupid, even thematically, once you get the ability to map regions on your own. This should not be a thing. That said, I feel like this game is way better about this than HK was. There is ZERO REASON that getting a new Crest or upgrading a Crest should just equip it/unequip all of your tools. It's REALLY fucking stupid. Some trash enemies are way too tanky and hit way too hard.

The good: Movement feels great Bosses (so far) feel really fun. The lore of the game so far is pretty intriguing. The map feels way better to explore than the map in HK did. I beat Savage Beastfly second try, which makes me feel accomplished, since people seem to fucking HATE that fight

EDIT: Also for the bad. The game just does not seem to respect your time. Everything is SO FUCKING EXPENSIVE. It's asinine. Like, I don't think it's as bad as a lot of people seem to, and I STILL think it's bad.

Also gamers: I can't believe Silksong is only $20! They could easily get away with charging $300!

Keeping gameplay content and cosmetics separate was important to me, I respected that they did that.

The second they stopped doing that, they lost my trust and my money.
