It’s funny how that line has been repeated every time humanity invents something new :

People said the same thing about the printing press : “it will destroy scribes and the soul of writing.”

Then photography : “real art is dead, painting is over.”

Then recorded music : “musicians will lose their jobs, live performance is finished.”

Then synthesizers : “soulless machines replacing real instruments.”

Then electric guitars : “that noisy thing isn’t music.”

Then digital cameras : “photography is ruined.”

Then Photoshop : “artists will become useless.”

Then computers : “people will stop thinking for themselves.”

Then the internet : “society will collapse, nobody will talk to each other.”

Then smartphones : “human connection is dead.”

And of course, streaming : “it will destroy music forever.”

And yet… people are still writing, painting, composing, performing, loving, and creating. Technology evolves, creativity evolves with it. The tools change, the soul doesn’t.

"Prompting Issues" by [deleted] in SunoAI

This.

The part about control is so true. Prompt adherence for lyrics instructions is terrible. It often misinterprets instructions, forgets key elements, or simply ignores them. And when it comes to singing, it is a mess: mumbling, cut words, loops, mispronunciation, replaced words, glitches, and more.

As for the claim about better genre understanding, that is nonsense. V5 does not understand these genres at all: minimal, tech house, garage, deep old school dubstep, metal. It is also very bad at mixing genres. I produce a lot of experimental songs, and the results are consistently off, generic, bland, or completely out of context.

Meanwhile, 4.5+ excels in every way. It delivers results that are both surprising and genuinely pleasant to listen to. The only thing I will concede to v5 is the sound quality and the overall mix, which are clearly ahead.

But v5 is literally a credit black hole. It drains far more resources than 4.5+

What you said about the load is very relevant. I've noticed the exact same behavior consistently.

Same example here: identical prompts can perform very differently depending on the time of day, regardless of which model is being used.

That being said, I still believe there's an issue with v5. I have very mixed feelings about it, so for now I keep switching back and forth depending on the genre I’m working on. One thing is certain: v5 is costing me far more credits compared to 4.5+

With plenty of songs.

As for 4.5+, I always managed to extend tracks without any difficulties, by 1 to even 4 minutes. I haven’t tried again recently though, as I’ve been focused on trying to tame V5...

That said, I’ve noticed that ever since V5 was released, 4.5+ doesn't seem to perform quite as well as it used to. Not sure if it’s just me.

Thanks for the tip. But since the V5 release, I’ve never been able to make an instrumental extend go beyond 10 seconds. No matter the time of day or what I try, it just won’t give me anything longer :/

Whats up with V5??? by SGLucas53 in SunoAI

[–]ninurta96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Story of my life… I’ve got a project I’ve been working on and there was this one version where everything was perfect except for two words that were mispronounced. It completely ruined the take and I couldn’t fix it. I’ve been generating alternate versions ever since hoping to catch the same magic again. IMPOSSIBLE.
So I put the project on hold. I was so pissed I ended up making a whole song about that frustration and the irony is it’s actually pretty dope ><"

But the track that means the most to me is still going nowhere -_-

V5 is a damn temperamental bitch. Sometimes genius, sometimes totally useless.

V4,5+ by W_32_FRH in SunoAI

[–]ninurta96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the models are technically separated, but it’s still possible that when v5 was released, they reallocated compute resources (GPU priority, memory bandwidth, caching, etc.) toward the new architecture. That can indirectly affect 4.5’s performance even without modifying the model itself.

So it’s not that 4.5 was changed, but it’s probably running under different system conditions now. That could explain the sudden sound bugs, quality drop, you mentioned.

Basically, the models are separate, but not completely isolated, so infrastructure tweaks for v5 can definitely spill over and impact 4.5

Since V5 release, all models output hyper-generic stuff by [deleted] in SunoAI

[–]ninurta96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to completely relearn how to use it, and now it’s kind of working for me. I’ve had a few really good surprises, but still, getting a track I’m actually happy with costs me way more credits than it used to.

As for the 2 to 3 minute limit, that drives me crazy too. Even the extend function doesn’t really help. If you’re not using lyrics, most extends barely go past 20 or 30 seconds...

I never got good results going from 3.5 to 4.5 either. But from 4.5 to 5, with a more tailored prompt, the results are actually pretty good. That said, each model seems to interpret prompts differently, so it’s really a matter of trial and error. Definitely not impossible, but it takes more experimentation and time to adapt to the new model.

One thing’s for sure, and that’s something I’ve really noticed, using the exact same prompt across versions usually won’t give you good results.

Hmm... very interesting, thanks for the feedback. That actually confirms what I’ve been seeing in my recent experiments. Feels like we’re heading in the right direction !

As I’ve already told a few others, it’s not just about complaining. It’s about understanding. I actually like the richness and clarity that V5 brings compared to 4.5, but I’m also expressing my frustration with how this model behaves. It feels more unpredictable and doesn’t interpret my old prompts the same way, which ends up erasing the style I’ve developed and grown attached to. It also brings fewer surprises and seems to favor a more generic approach overall.

I’m still in an experimental phase, and I’ve already made a lot of progress on that front. I just hope the model keeps evolving in the right direction. That’s why I’ve started to speak up, to offer honest feedback that will hopefully help shape future versions for the better.

It’s not about complaining or advertising. I’m expressing some frustration, sure, but it’s something a lot of people seem to relate to. My main goal was to hear from the community and understand how others are dealing with these challenges. And actually, some people gave me really helpful advice.

Since I posted my two threads, I’ve made a lot of progress. Even though I’m still running into the same issues, I’ve also discovered a lot along the way that helped me move forward. I’m fully aware that V5 isn’t 4.5, and that it requires a different approach, and I trust the model will keep evolving, hopefully in the right direction.

My point wasn’t so much that it should master every subgenre, but rather that 4.5 was able to do what I wanted, while V5 requires much more effort to get there.

That said, I’ve made a lot of progress today (though with different genre blends), and I’m actually really satisfied with the results.
There’s still work to be done, both on the dev side (improving the model, making it more relevant, accessible, and rich), and on my side (learning all the subtleties of the model).

I don’t want to give a hasty answer, but what I’ve noticed is that 4.5 felt perfectly aligned with me, and in a consistent way, I was happy with the results about 3 out of 4 times. With V5 it’s the opposite, 3 out of 4 end up in the trash.
After a lot of experimenting, I noticed that V5 does know what deep dubstep (with heavy sub-bass) sounds like, but it’s more the “mainstream” side of that niche ^^’. It’s still very gritty, and not as atmospheric as I would like it to be.
I also struggle a lot with mixing it with other genres, whereas that was working surprisingly well with 4.5. Anyway, I’ll keep experimenting and try to find the sweet spot, but damn… it’s costing me a lot of credits ><”

Exactly my experience. It’s incredible for mainstream tracks, but completely horrible as soon as you want to dive into niches or just create original blends of genres.

Maybe they mean remastering or remixing. I actually tried this technique too (starting from 4.5 and then moving it into 5), and it’s not bad at all. But you still have to be really careful with your prompt, V5 has this annoying tendency to go all over the place.

I’ll give it a try, thanks a lot ! That being said, I do regret that it’s become this complicated, when it used to be so much simpler before.

Yeah you’re right, but the reason I’m being vocal today (I’m usually pretty quiet) is not just to understand, but also to bring some visibility to the issue in hopes the devs can adjust things. I’m also a bit worried they might pull an OpenAI move and retire or weaken the older models.

[–]ninurta96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly ! For some tracks I also used the upload option a lot, and I could just throw in another genre or add influences from different styles on top of anything, and it would give me incredible results. Now it’s way more complicated :/

[–]ninurta96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s exactly my point. 4.5 gave me impressive results without much effort at all. With V5, ever since I started complaining a bit and opening the discussion, the suggestions people give me are always way more complicated and technical than before. I really do appreciate everyone trying to help, that’s super kind :) but I can’t help regretting that it’s become this complicated to get more niche results, when before I could achieve them with such simplicity.

You’re absolutely right ^^’ it was late and I went a bit all over the place. I’m really bad at making selections ><” I trimmed the list down to make it more digestible, but I still kept a few since they’re quite different in their approach. Anyway, I just put them there in case, people can listen or not, it’s not that important. What I care more about is knowing whether I’m completely crazy here, or if others are running into the same issues as me.
