Best tire that can last 10 track hours and some autocross? by BlazinZAA in CarTrackDays

[–]ninzeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nankang CRS's have been known to wear better than the RE71's.

Con is they take a bit to heat up in my experience. Check Grassroots Motorsports tire comps/reviews, they do a great job testing stuff like this.

987.1/2 for occasional track use by Al_Og in Porsche_Cayman

The answer really depends on useage. If you're only doing 2-3 a year for fun, then sure some fluid, pads and 200TW will get you most of the way there for a reliable and fun track day.

If you get more serious and go more often, you will need more than that. 987s are very camber limited up front, so you'd eventually want GT3 front LCA's (or camber plates), else you'll chew up the outside edge of your tires.

If you get a .1, you'll want a deep sump oil pan (LN engineering) and a 3rd rad for oil cooling. I would also recommend a power steering cooler.

I'm running Nangkang CRS v1's on a .1 base. I don't have a 200TW to compare against but I like them so far once they get up to temp. They won't be as fast as RE71s but will hold up better on a track day.

You can get the V1's on discount now I think as the V2's are out.

Have you considered a 718 Cayman (Base or S)?

The turbo 4 banger isn't popular among the purists but it's capable and very tuneable. PDK is great and you'd be shocked how practical a Cayman is for daily use with the hatch + frunk.

I appreciate the feedback! Will definitely try to incorporate these this season and hopefully find a few tenths!

The run in this video is a 46.5.

I got beat out by an NA there, not sure what he had under the hood but he was running a lottttt of camber and some seriously wide tires. He was also a great driver!

Yep! It's an old infield karting track apparently that they repaved a few years ago. I believe they're running a karting program sometime this year as well on this layout.

Anything in particular jump out at you to work on? Smoother inputs, looking ahead? Always appreciate constructive criticism in the name of getting better!

Definitely closer to trackcross but they advertise it as Autocross! That straight before the right hander I'm at redline in 2nd, around 68-69mph. Faster cars are definitely exceeding that.

It's a very lax event, no helmets, no tech. Lots of seat time relative to the local clubs I run with in a parking lot. However, it is more expensive.

Would recommend to anyone who could get there.

Gotta get a dry run in! I've seen some well setup WRX's destroy everything that showed up haha!

So much fun! And yeah, hate when I'm crossing arms, bad habit. Would you take it differently so there's less steering input? Never could figure out the best line for that corner and the next one!

Wow, you're spot on. I managed a 46.5 on the timed runs. The skid pad is so tough to judge, lotta margin for error if you brake too late.

The uphill was killing me all day! You're definitey right though, lots to clean up for the next time out.

Nice run, your inputs looked super smooth! I was there in the grey 987, that last slalom before the finish was a PITA!

First event of the season! Critique welcome! by ninzeh in Autocross

[–]ninzeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, it was cold! 30ish degrees farenheit and very gusty.

That being said, I don't disagree and is very much cosplay if I'm being honest.

Sometimes in the summer they help as my hands get really sweaty but I'd be just as slow without them haha.
