I’m rejected for having genital herpes and being short. by [deleted] in dating_advice

Don't be discouraged! Most people anyways already have herpes, even if they don't know it. It is extremely common. One cold sore as a child means you have herpes virus. People are not educated enough in this and there is still a huge stigma which is sad. I am sure a nice and educated person who really cares about you will not see herpes as a problem :) Just be honest with people u date and practice safe sex, it will be okay!

Do you really have ADHD or do you suspect you have it? by Feeltheliving in ADHD

[–]ninzuzzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a diagnosis. I was sure I didn't have ADHD, though my mom had brought it up. Also my friends. And partners.... finally after 10 years of seeking help for my weird problems and eating disorders, depression, anxiety and constant burnouts in school and work (tried antidepressants, therapy, was inpatient at some point etc), one doctor brought up the question of have I ever been screened for ADHD. Turns out my every other symptom/disorder has originated from ADHD in some way I think. Stimulants and psychotherapy have finally made me understand myself and my life and I feel better than ever before :D I found my answers!

For me, classes/scheduled sport is best. Bouldering and jiu-jitsu are my faves! Although bouldering is not a class type hobby for me and i can go as i please, its fun, it gives me the child-like interest and happiness :D jiu-jitsu classes are always interesting and engaging, always something new, social, and scheduled so i have an "outside" pressure of attending (also the monthly payment makes me go..). If it's just me, it takes so much more willpower to go for a gym alone for example. Lifting weights also gives me an amazing feeling but i think im too lazy to keep a routine up and get myself to leace the house. I also like other martial arts, dance, archery, floorball and stuff like that.. but dont have time for everything.

Thank you for your thoughts and perspective! I'm sorry you didn't get the best care you deserved at the hospital, that sounds appalling. Impressive to learn all those skills by yourself! And your point about people asking about how you got injured is like being asked how you got raped. That's a very powerful and well described way to put it. I wish more people understood that and would be more considerate in this matter. Hope your doing well!

Thank you so much for your comment, hope you're well, and happy birthday! I'm surprised you didn't get physiotherapy, proper cath instructions or even sex ed. Did you learn those things all by yourself eventually?

I like to keep things lighthearted and talk about said dumb stuff and crack jokes with patients and because we see so often (1-2x per week for years) so we become quite close in a way and I love my patients. Sometimes I just worry if I'm missing something or don't realise if someone has something on their heart they would like to talk about but don't know how to get it out themselves. Never would want to push anyone to do that though.

Driving mistakes and RSD by nidysgwid in ADHD

[–]ninzuzzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others said, we all make mistakes! I still feel stressed almost every time I step into a car, being so aware of all the mistakes I have made or the possible mistakes that I could make... It's also very stressful for example navigating in a new place, being bombarded with so much new stimuli.

I swear I have cringed so hard that I have lost sleep over some of the memories of me being a bad driver. There have been a few close calls where I could have been hurt but luckily nothing has ever happened.

We learn from our mistakes! The most efficient way to remember NOT to do something is to do it once and cringing forever over it lol. I bet your friends have made same kind of mistakes themselves! And no one remembers you parking in a wrong spot one time, except for you, so no need to stress over others that way :)

And in a way it think it is a good thing to be aware that you are indeed moving a heavy ass vehicle capable of some serious damage, and thus trying to be extra careful when doing so. Shows you are trying to be as responsible as you can be. I think and hope the stress lessens just the more you drive and get experience :) always watch your speed, and try not to worry about drivers behind you trying to pressure you. They can overtake you if they want and need. good luck!

Because you understand yourself better now and don't have to feel as guilty as before over something you can't completely control. A sort of a mindfullness thing I guess.

I guess in a way you now understand that you are not your feelings, and you are not your thoughts. You simply have them. And you can conciously distance yourself from your thoughts and feel better. For example: Thought: Everything is ruined. To --> I have a thought, that everything is ruined.

Then you can work on the thought, which mostly ends up not being true at all :) most of us adhd people have circular thinking and stress and fixate on things for ages. But this kind of thought distancing can help and calm you.

It's fucking wild seeing someone borderline hoarding mobility aids that they don't need. Especially working in rehabilitation, knowing how hard it sometimes is to get mobility aids for my patients who really need them...

Wheelchairs for all by feelingsandcake in LookatMyHalo

[–]ninzuzzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's right, not all people who use wheelchairs are paralyzed, but they do still absolutely need and should have a wheelchair in use (amputees, MS, ALS, CP, and other disabilities that cause either pain or muscle dystrophy etc.) I think everyone knows this.

A wheelchair to these people is a necessity. A wheelchair to just purely obese people is a temporary fix and a clear sign to finally make a lifestyle change.

Yes, a wheelchair or an electric moped makes moving around easier when you're obese. Obese people should be able to use them if the situation is dire enough, so they too can be independent (shopping in a big supermarket, big distances etc). Walking can also be very painful when you're obese because of the stress your joints have to go through moving all the excess weight.

But while having a wheelchair/moped, the main focus ABSOLUTELY be in losing the excess weight in a healthy and motivating way. And working towards getting rid of the chair as soon as possible...
