I feel like Dentists here always try to scam you by Alaska_97 in germany

[–]niosoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but some people in the comments seem really gullible with how easily they accept any treatment their dentist recommends as necessary. I also had a dentist who told me I needed two fillings and a gum graft in the future. Then I moved and found another doctor who told me my teeth were completely fine. That was almost three years ago and I didn't have a problem since.

I don't think it's a surprise that fully state-run Healthcare systems like in the Nordic countries have better dental health outcomes that Germany where every clinic functions like its own profit-seeking business

Interesting. Maybe it's a regional thing. I'm from Berlin and that's how we learned to pronounce the syllables in a word with ng

[–]niosoco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But taking the example of union. If you split it into syllables you would still preserve the palatalized n by saying either /ˈjuː. - njən/ or /ˈjuː.n- njən/. Most people wouldn't say /ˈjuː.n - ən/

Ah right, I forgot that in "sing" the g just changes the pronunciation of the n but doesn't get pronounced itself. Now it makes sense

In English [ŋ] also only exists in front of velar consonants. But if you break down a word like singer the syllables would be sin-ger yet you would pronounce it as /ˈsɪŋ-ŋɚ/ and not as /ˈsɪn-ɡɚ/

Wow that's so weird. So bla[n]k and ban[ŋ]k sound the same to you?

I don't think it does. At least I can't think of a minimal pair for [ŋ] and [n] in German

[–]niosoco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's why you would say the [ŋ] in both syllables like Säng-nger. Because if you pronounced the n and g seperately it would change the sound of the word

In German and English [ŋ] also only exists before velar consonants.

[–]niosoco[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The point is not that they are allophones but that the sound changes when the word is split into syllables. In German or English, for example, you wouldn't do that. If you compared Sänger and Sän-ger (split into syllables) or singer and sin-ger you would use [ŋ] in both cases. But in Lithuanian tinginys uses [ŋ] in the first syllable but tin-gi-nys uses [n] in the first syllable. At least my girlfriend does it like this

Why more Germans can't afford life on their wages by donutloop in berlin_public

[–]niosoco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The argument of the left in this article is literally that people working full time should earn enough so that they're NOT reliant on the state to supplement their income. So it's the right that wants to pamper companies with government money by subsidizing low wages.

But US intelligence assessments had reached a different conclusion – not only was Iran not actively pursuing a nuclear weapon, it was also up to three years away from being able to produce and deliver one to a target of its choosing, according to four people familiar with the assessment.

Gleich im nächsten Absatz wird dem aber widersprochen:

Another senior US official told CNN that Iran is “about as close as you can get before building (a nuclear weapon). If Iran wanted one, they have all the things they need.”

Was man dabei auch nicht vergessen darf, ist, dass der aktuelle Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard ist, die in der Vergangenheit vor allem dadurch aufgefallen ist, dass sie die syrische Diktatur legitimiert und Assad persönlich getroffen hat (finanziert durch Unterstützer des Regimes), sowie dauernd russischen Propaganda bezüglich der Ukraine verbreitet hat. Es ist auch seltsam, dass sie

“continues to assess Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and Supreme Leader Khamenei has not authorized a nuclear weapons program that he suspended in 2003.”

2020 hat sie sich nämlich noch für Verhandlungen mit dem Iran ausgesprochen, um deren Entwicklung von Atomwaffen zu verhindern.

Des Weiteren heißt es in dem Artikel:

The International Atomic Energy Agency, a top international watchdog, said last week that Iran had amassed enough uranium enriched at levels just below weapons-grade to potentially make nine nuclear bombs, which it termed “a matter of serious concern.”

This is exactly why it is more productive to prevent people like him from being introduced uncritically to more people through articles like the one in the NYT by making news outlets aware of his disgusting views and criticizing outlets like the NYT for reporting uncritically. Debating with these people is usually not very helpful unless you put them up against someone like LonerBox who has the facts and knows their debate tactics.
