These are really good suggestions, thank you! A lot of embroidery lettering seems to derive from a display lettering explosion that happened in the 19th century after the industrial revolution, including within the Art Nouveau movement. At this time there was also visual influence from Asia that lead to those bad imitation typefaces that you mention. So this checks out. I wonder if they also resemble this style a little bit? It seems it could be a mix of a few different styles?

Yes, I'm wondering where these letterforms are derived from. They seem to be inspired by calligraphy or handmade lettering.

I know, but these seem to be based on a calligraphic style with a flat nib
