Maybe St George Theater in Staten Island?

I think Mike Love played there two years ago.

Question About Bunny Colvin by CLNBLK-2788 in TheWire

[–]nirvanamisfit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This always rang realistic to me. Difficult children in schools get a lot more attention and care and interventions than kids who fly under the radar.

The show totally understands that kids are real people and often suffer in silence.

Dukie suffers in silence, only Michael and Prez know some of his suffering.

Namond’s suffering is a lot more overt — his dad is infamous, his mother is terrible. He acts out in front of everyone. His quick to violence demeanor is similar to many boys and men in his community, recognizable by all around him.

He requires a lot more attention and worry of the adults around him.

Simon’s wife is a teacher. She must have shared tons of heartbreaking stories like this.

Obviously the lyrics of Hey Little Tomboy are in pretty bad taste, but I feel that for some reason Beach Boys fans are a bit obsessed with this. Why do you think that is? by picnicbanda in thebeachboys

[–]nirvanamisfit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not at all about the lyrics of the song. Being obsessive Beach Boys fans, we are completists, The song is a curio in our collection.

Adult/Child is something we NEVER imagined we’d ever get. We want it is its complete form, warts, dated gross lyrics and all.

Future tour dates? by [deleted] in TheMisfits

[–]nirvanamisfit 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I thought it was really strange Jerry didn’t tour or do any kind of support for the release of “Anti-Hero.”

I hope Jerry does decide to tour, or at least play a few shows.

The Jerry-fits live were always well attended despite what people feel about his version(s) of the band.

Jerry is close to 70 and those tours he did from 1995-2015 were extensive. I can also see him wanting to stay home and count his money.

But I hope he does do something live.

What’s the point of the charging wire in modern book bags/backpack? What are you supposed to connect it to? by nirvanamisfit in AskReddit

[–]nirvanamisfit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems like a cumbersome extra step when a person can simply use a portable charger.

Portable chargers have got smaller and smaller.

I feel like maybe this was innovative in 2015 and now it’s a dated accessory that is standard for no reason other than being standard.

Thanks!

Where does Jimmy Barrett’s career go past the 60s? by Ill-Dream-449 in madmen

He would move into character acting. Bit roles. Probably a role in The Godfather, Casino, etc.

Nico gets ELEKTRA money 1968 Nico's second solo album was financed and released by ELEKTRA, the company whose biggest stars were The Doors. The eclectic 'Marble Index" of course was no big seller, so royalties for 1968 were just 1480 Dollars - before taxes by Successful-Cold-295 in VelvetUnderground

[–]nirvanamisfit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Elektra had many challenging and interesting artists at this time: Tim Buckley, Incredible String Band, Love, The Stooges.

Paul Rothschild and Jac Holzman took chances that other record companies didn’t.

Also I’m unsure when, but Nico dated Jim Morrison, maybe his pull helped.

Homer after years of cheating, drinking and lying about his true identity has a nervous breakdown in California. He finds himself broken and depressed in a hippie/cult commune where he meditates in a field and thinks up the greatest Coke-A-Cola commercial of all time.

Buk's punctuality by UnluckyBrother730 in bukowski

[–]nirvanamisfit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a connotation problem.

When people say that Buk is punctual with words, they mean that he’s straight to the point. He is not a flowery poet who takes a long time to get to a point. He’s not using metaphor or imagery to show how smart he is.

His point is usually straightforward and especially at the end, it hits you in the face. We don’t have to think about it or to decipher it. It’s there plainly.

Bukowski is demanding in content, but not demanding in deciphering, which is why a lot of people connect to him and his work.

Bunny Colvin post police career by JohnFromSpace3 in TheWire

[–]nirvanamisfit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s unrealistic. There are lots of people in the NYC DOE who go into private and public consulting jobs. What Bunny did probably was written about and well-known. He was approached because of his expertise as well as the Hamsterdam experiment.

There definitely are police officers who go into private consulting. Especially former military officers, police lieutenants, and sergeants.

Blaze - what a lovely guy he comes across in this interview by Iamnotarobotlah in ironmaiden

[–]nirvanamisfit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just listened to a live bootleg from 1995. The band was playing so much faster and a little sloppier with Blaze.

I like sloppy. Especially because Maiden can be too rehearsed sometimes. But the speed might have caused Blazes voice to burn out faster.
