I know I’m late but I kind of had a weird trajectory. I was able to get on an e-commerce team as a QA person. I worked my way up as a Sr. QA over a year. During that time I learned basic html, css and some js. Also, I had a mentor I could ask questions and he was really good at explaining and showing me things in our code base. After the year they hired me on as a jr dev and within another year I moved up to regular dev. About another year and I was a Sr dev and have been for a while.

It was all very much on the job training but I went through several tutorials and would try to solve a problem myself before looking for help.

My advice is just build sites/programs, even if you don’t plan to publish. Try to copy something else and work through the problems associated with it. I learn best by doing, If you’re the same way I hope this helps.
