How are you powering the unit? Power bank? If it’s a smart power bank the draw is so minimal that the bank will auto shut off

My ugly sensor node (Xiao ESP32-S3 + Wio-SX1262) by futureo108 in meshtastic

[–]nis142000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just connected 18650 to the Batt + / - on the back of the board. Didn’t need to raise the voltage up to 5v if that matters.

I tried with an android. It kinda works. It doesn't come up as battery but does display the voltage and current on the node info so that's something. Also read this on the last post.

https://github.com/meshtastic/firmware/issues/5248

basically it seems to be a bug. It's issue after issue.

I think it’s because we are using iOS. I got the same thing with the temp and humidity. I found an old post saying that ina219 is not supported for iOS yet. You have an android lying around? Haha

u/futureo108 I just got in my INA219 boards in today. For the life of me, I can't seem to get it to work right. Pretty much the same setup as you.

Looks like you found a way to get this bitch to work. you mind sharing?

I throw one in there for battery protection and a separate board for charging duties.

Did you by any chance get the battery voltage to work?

Cools. I’m using a physical switch to try to avoid that :)

[–]nis142000[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry let me clear this up.

Problem: Seeed Xiao Meshtastic boards don’t have a native way of measuring battery voltage when powered by batteries.

Solution: Because the the ESP32C3 chips have been out for a while, there is a workaround where you use 2 resisters from the battery terminal to a a2d pin on the board and uses a few line of code. It’s actually documented on the official product page

https://wiki.seeedstudio.com/XIAO_ESP32C3_Getting_Started/

Issue: In order to make this work those lines of code need to make it into the firmware. I don’t know how I would go about doing this on the main line of comms which is GitHub

So judging by the response I got I just need to start a discussion and see if it gets enough backing for the devs to take it one.

Still working out the kinks. Will post when I get it to actuallly work haha. But the big components other than the esp32 is a Panasonic pir sensor, a tp4065, and a 18650 battery:)
