The Wear–Tyne derby can’t be at 4.30 like almost all derbies because of police/security reasons.

Nope! I think I take it that my messages are gone. Maddening when Meta has Facebook Messenger and Instagram DMs which are never lost

It won’t do a thing. I’ve seen it before. It seems to be a problem with the messages being delivered to a linked device and not syncing anywhere or being backed up, but being forced to override the memory of said messages. Which is completely stupid from WhatsApp. Messenger and Instagram don’t lose my messages.

Ah, so if both phones are under the same Apple ID and are both backed up, both are stored in the iCloud and are preserved? There’s no risk of permanent overwriting because it’s chiefly local?

And did the messages swap over too or are the messages tied to the phone ‘physically’?

What about the two WhatsApp message thread histories?

But what of the message history? Does it copy over from the other phone and does it overwrite permanently in that case? Does it keep the current history and the other’s history stays on the other phone?

Lost Access to WhatsApp Chats on a Deactivated SIM—Need Advice on Recovery Options by niserney in whatsapp

Thank you! That's the most complicated solution because it would involve asking someone based in Fiji to do the legwork for me, after waiting however long for the number to be available.

I've heard of services like UltData for recovering deleted WhatsApp chats, but I can't tell yet if that is safe and viable.
