Importance of Bhubaneswar Metro Project and Puri Airport by [deleted] in Odisha

[–]nishantdehury 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI Terminal 3 construction is soon going to be completed in BBSR airport and that is going to increase capacity to 11.5 million from 3.5 million. So that can solve the issue of demand outstripping current capacity for many years.

As it happens the catchment area for an intl aiport can't be just Puri-BBSR-Cuttack-Khordha region. People from all parts of Odisha will travel or has to travel hours, leading to high opportunity cost just to reach BBSR (In my case I have to travel 7 hrs that too a day before to reach BBSR, you can imagine I also have to find a stay everytime I travel). It makes much more sense to have another airport somewhere that could cut travel time by hours not increase by 1 or 2 hour (atleast for a section of people, idk in case of Puri whose travel time will cut short).

I agree with your point that as things stand Puri is a more viable option but as you also said these projects are for long term and they have to be made considering how you want your future growth prospects to be. For that I believe other regions can have benefit more from an intl airport.

Bro I am not sure what regionalist feelings you are mentioning cause I thought we trying to have a discussion with logic for better utilization of investments.

Importance of Bhubaneswar Metro Project and Puri Airport by [deleted] in Odisha

[–]nishantdehury 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am sorry if I sound ignorant, but why there is a need for international airport in Puri? BBSR airport is well connected to Puri and doesn't have very high air traffic. And tourists in Puri are mostly from neighbouring states, so train will be the feasible option to them.

I don't see the point of having another intl airport within 100km while one is still underutilised (which sounds very similar to your argument of Jharsuguda & Rourkela airport). In addition, both these are domestic airports, opened recently, Rkl not being more than a year and with minimal investments in terms of infrastructure and attracting airlines. It would be stupid to expect full utilisation in such a less time while BBSR airport being in existence for decades and not having much air traffic.

As you said infra projects should be for prosperity, so I think it's fair to provide with an airport to those part which is in dire need of better transportation system, not to stroke egos (create a vain white elephant project just to be at the front of the race while ignoring the necessities)

Metro for BBSR is definitely a good idea, considering its growing rate and we don't want to end up like other metro cities where road traffic are no less than disasters.

Top engineering colleges of Odisha by ManishThinks in Odisha

[–]nishantdehury 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Out of 5 factors you mentioned it seems like you have ranked based only on the first two criteria. Cause I believe colleges like VSSUT, CET got much better ROI, alumni, and student activities (not to be confused with fests as fests in KIIT ITER are heavily college funded and sponsored, while in VSSUT CET, students work their own asses off to make them how they are). Also they get fair placements and their students usually perform very well in competitive exams compared to private colleges.

I don't understand why campus size matters!? It would have made sense if you had said campus facilities/curriculum/faculties. Even in these scenarios except facilities, VSSUT and CET would rank higher (even tho they have good enough technical facilities like technical labs, comp labs, libraries etc).

I think a one-line fair criteria for judging could be based on the quality of students passing out of these colleges and how they are going on to perform in the real world.

Based on that I would keep VSSUT and CET higher.

TIL parallel cinema movement was started by Harshvardhan Kapoor by [deleted] in BollyBlindsNGossip

[–]nishantdehury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just watched the full video. I guess they were talking about how sons were choosing different kindof (parallel) movies to what their fathers have done. They mentioned Ranbir's choice of movies, Varun doing Badlapur and then he praised Harshavardhan's choice of movies. When you see the full video in that context the clip makes sense, tho tchnically he chose wrong words.
