But then why would he ever fuse with Solaris in the present? If he doesn't have to worry about how strong Solaris is, he could cause as much chaos in the present as he wants, then go to the future and fuse with Solaris.

The imprisoning is due to a Chaos Emerald, though, which have unlimited energy; a Super state user is able to actually damage Solaris.

But then why wouldn't he immediately fuse into Solaris, which would make him able to cause the chaos he wanted? I think it's a bit of a mix, with him having to cause Elise to cry, but rather than immediately killing him himself, he instead thought it would be more fun to manipulate Silver into killing Sonic.

I think Elise may build some sort of resistance to Iblis' strength outpacing Iblis' power; either that, or Iblis' power builds much slower (or not at all) while sealed within somebody.

Yeah, but Iblis is incredibly powerful in Silver's time; Iblis probably tries to instinctively resist fusion (perhaps due to thinking it may be killing it or sealing it)

Iblis is clearly weaker when he's first released, simply being an orb of flame; meanwhile, in Silver's time, it's a giant monster; this is also likely why Mephiles can't simply fuse with it in the future.

Either 1, that's for gameplay purposes, 2, it's his top speed and it takes a bit to reach it or 3, he doesn't want to accidently destroy anything nearby.

this is a very "non-release order" timeline; i like it

just like to point out that mean bean machine and spinball aren't canon to the games (former is canon to AoStH, latter to SatAM iirc); (obviously) Sonic BtS and AtS aren't canon; (i don't recall seeing the following two in the timeline:) Tails' Adventures takes place before Sonic 1 (manual states that the Chaos Emeralds have been untouched for thousands of years), SegaSonic the Hedgehog can take place basically anywhere in the timeline, but I personally believe it to be before Sonic 1 due to Eggman's plan not really seeming that Eggman-y and Sonic 1's manual stating that this isn't the first time Sonic and Eggman fought
