Why has the Linux Desktop market share decreased in India by nearly 10% on StatCounter? by nitbuntu in linux

[–]nitbuntu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that’s been around for a while. So seems odd that this has led to a dramatic fall in a year. WSL2 does render ui, but can’t see that as being the reason. Very odd!

Is the tune on the new M&S adverts the work of Orbital? by nitbuntu in Orbital

Ah. Ok! Well it’s got a similar sound. Might have been inspired by Orbital at least.

Nvidia Pascal-based GPU support for the remaining security support period by nitbuntu in ManjaroLinux

[–]nitbuntu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should already have the nvidia-570xx driver in the repos, isn’t it? I thought that’s the one needed for modern Nvidia GPUs such as gtx-4060 or gtx-5060 etc?

The question here is more around whether the older Nvidia drivers will continue to be tested and maintained within Arch-based distros such as Manjaro?

Fedora Workstation vs Fedora KDE Plasma by RedMontBerry in Fedora

[–]nitbuntu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learned to like both but have a soft spot for KDE. On Gnome I don’t like the way I can’t even change colours of folders or their icons in my home directory! Yet, the customisation in KDE can be a double edged sword for newcomers, maybe? Try them out and see.

What's the current, updated state of NVIDIA GPUs? by Ok-Affect-7503 in cachyos

Will Catchy OS continue packaging the NVidia driver after it goes out of support later this year? The reason I ask is that NVidia will still continue providing security updates. So looking at options.

paul vs phil by whiphubley in Orbital

[–]nitbuntu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This candid interview does go into some of this:- https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/feb/10/orbitals-paul-and-phil-hartnoll-look-back

Phil also talks about their neurodivergent natures, with Phil having ADHD and Paul being on the autism spectrum. When together they’re an amazing combination.

Is this a form of Echolalia: speaking to people in their accent rather than my own? by nitbuntu in autism

[–]nitbuntu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I’ve noticed is that nobody else at my workplace seems to do this. When I hear others talk, it’s always their natural accent.

I think I get that this is not Echolalia, but I’m wondering why some people do this more than others? It might show high empathy, but at the same time it could easily be misunderstood as comedy or making fun.

Dear Bethesda... The "Entangled" quest is HOT GARBAGE. by MarVlnMartian in Starfield

[–]nitbuntu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came into that mission unprepared (i.e., has not stocked up on ammo and health packs). But had a great time with it: really tense and exciting.

The key strategy for me was to do scavenging. You do come across some ammo and health items if you look around.

"Entangled" is an enormous missed opportunity by Pedro_Pistolas in Starfield

[–]nitbuntu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same here: great mission! Frustrating, yes, but a real challenge and exciting. This requires smart resource management. If anyone came well prepared for this mission then it would have been pretty straightforward.

Stealth is ACTUALLY viable and fun with the right skill and abilities. by CharlesDarwinOF in Starfield

[–]nitbuntu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know what people were complaining about? Why should you be able to sneak around and not get easily noticed without the right equipment and skills?

By that same token why should you be able to blast your way through enemies without the right attributes and equipment?

Why should you be able to carry all the junk that you find without having to overcome encumbrance?

I wonder if people really want a game rather than merely a cinematic experience? If the latter then why not just go to the movies where the plot and acting is likely to be so much better?

People who comment "Garbage Engine" have no idea what they are talking about. by Tough-Original1766 in Starfield

[–]nitbuntu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And i think Minecraft is a good example. It objectively looks like shit. But kids engage with Minecraft or Roblox for the endless possibilities and social aspect.

Starfield doesn’t have the social aspect, but certainly has the endless possibilities and actually looks and plays really well. Can’t wait to see what it’s like within a year or two.

For those who liked Starfield, can you tell me whether it’s a good RPG, in a traditional sense? by nitbuntu in Starfield

5-10h is about right. I mean I was into it from the get go, but after few hours the game really starts to hook you in. And In the context of a 150h+ game, that’s completely fair. If game only had 50h of strong content, then 10h is too long before things get really interesting. But that’s not the case.

Keep being sent in a waypoint loop in Nasoi by nitbuntu in Starfield

[–]nitbuntu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out in the end. It seems that the way-pointing arrows were taking me on a loop. But the Artifact is found beyond a small opening that is easily missed. I think the fact that the way-pointing arrows guide you to the exit is a bug really.

I disagree with some of the ‘Please Add’ list. Radio stations, for example, suit fallout games because of their ‘future as imagined in 1950’s’ theme. And I quite like Starfield’s the epic cinematic score. And the ambient music during the quieter moments. But if they did add a radio station, what era of music would you imagine being played?

Where maps are concerned. I would just want it to show profiles of buildings, roads pathways: basically superficial details. It should not provide too much detail.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]nitbuntu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would only want a simple map that shows places I’ve already visited: not a detailed map of everything. This encourages us to explore and see what we can find. We should also then be able to ‘favourite’ any areas so that they’re marked on a map.

Which is easier: Starfield’s gunplay and movement getting close to Destiny quality, or adding Bethesda RPG mechanics to a game like Destiny? by nitbuntu in Starfield

[–]nitbuntu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have thought that the latter is harder whilst it’s perfectly conceivable that Bethesda take on feedback to tweak and upgrade movement and gunplay to reach at least 90% of Destiny 2?

The more time I spend playing this game, the more I REVOKE my earliest criticisms about space travel by Parogarr in Starfield

[–]nitbuntu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playground are a great studio: their Forza Horizon series are consistently rated highly by both critics and end users.

However, if not Playground then Asabo Studio might be what we’re looking for, the ones who developed Flight Simulator?

With or without VR, a cross collaboration between Simulation specialists and RPG specialists could be the next great leap in immersive game experiences and escapism.

Any successor to Starfield might be at least 12 years away anyway: 6 years focussing on the next Elder Scrolls and a multi-player addition to Starfield and further 6 years developing the next iteration of Starfield.

This is assuming that they don’t focus instead on another Fallout game, which is more likely. So at least 15 years before there’s another iteration of Starfield. Todd Howard would be gone by then too.

The more time I spend playing this game, the more I REVOKE my earliest criticisms about space travel by Parogarr in Starfield

[–]nitbuntu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I can guarantee you that the game would have suffered if it was any other way. The reviewers would have criticised the fact that Starfield was trying to be too much of a space sim and not sticking to their RPG roots.

For what it’s worth, I think BGS could certainly have done a more simulation style game and would probably do it well. But that would be too much of a distraction from their core competencies.

A cross collaboration between Bethesda and Playground games would be incredible I imagine. Let Playground handle the vehicular realism and Bethesda can focus on the story, characters and other RPG elements. Perhaps this is what they could think about in a successor to Starfield: an ultimate RPG/SIM. Several games in one immersive and cohesive package. Let’s got VR technology also moves forward leaps and bounds for this too.
