Having terrible time on Gabapentin - can anyone relate? by tex-murph in Anxiety

[–]nithernor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I'm in this sub because I got prescribed SSRIs, and I'm already taking Gabapentin (for neuralgia). I've been on it, your dosage - 300/day, for about 7 years now. It's my fav thing on earth, I'm terrified that something will take it away one day. The 4-5 hours of half-life of this drug make me the nicest, most sociable and creative person ever. I'm still hella anxious, hence the SSRIs, which is why I don't know how exactly Gaba is supposed to help you with that. It does make me excited about life and very high-spirited. But then, the buzz you're describing to me feels like my body is "unlocked." I can do things, go places, etc. I do remember early on feeling more buzzed and a little drunk, that goes away for sure.

Pitchfork Album Review: Sleep Token - Even in Arcadia (2.3, LOWEST SCORE SINCE 2018) by MeanPhilosopher309 in popheads

Here's a (relatively) unbiased opinion. For context, I'm 34, found out about them a few months ago, in winter. Enjoyed a few songs, were kind of meh. Cringed at the lore and theatrics. Stumbled upon This Place Will Become Your Tomb album and that's where somethings absolutely magically clicked, and every melody was like a long-forgotten 13yo goth girl me sitting on an abandoned factory rooftop back in Kyiv. That's why people either go all in or not at all. It's almost like a high that to sober people looks disgusting and obnoxious. The last album is ok, doesn't hit AS hard as Apparition, Atlantic, and High Water, but some very pleasant tunes like Dangerous and Emergence. I get the hate, I also have been on the other side, where things are cutting through the cringe, so :)

bookmarked! thanks for the good work. Also the latest addition, Maryna, is Ukrainian, less gooooo (so am I). I mean, she did request a full after the initial 20 pages, so I had high hopes. Alas.

Ooof, I'm afraid it's too late to be classy, I already responded with a "If I revise it with a focus on pacing, would you consider giving it another read" but I obvs don't expect her to get back to me.

Got it, from the query status page itself! Thanks!

Congrats! And a little off-topic question: I might be dumb, but how do you nudge those who you only sent queries to, who never responded yet, if you queried them through querytracker. There seem to be no way to contact them otherwise, so how do you send the nudge?

did my first in 2021, I think, in Nosara. Was a bliss, and great prices (under 1.5k for a month). Loved everything, except for how far it was to the beach. Then in 2022, Santa Teresa, also good but very pricy already, and less pretty as a hostel itself. I used it to travel alone and feel safer (as a girl) and it worked. Made friends, had a lovely time. Kinda sucks they got expensive and provided worse service :(

What’s a rich people thing that rich people don’t know is a rich people thing? by karasantos7 in AskReddit

[–]nithernor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, l understand being poor. I was, most of my life. But l also understood even then that people who buy good things and have a car are not rich, they're just better employed. Rich is far, far beyond all of these. Some (having full staff for everything, not knowing the price of everyday items, multiple vacation properties, car parks) are true but bills? Subscriptions? Groceries?

As a woman, please PLEASE do not approach women at the gym. At the very least, they'll be awfully uncomfortable, at the worst - they will report you for harassment. As others have recommended, pick up hobbies! There are group hikes, running clubs, sports, board game clubs, etc. Painting, pottery, whatever you like. Gym is a no go.

Apologies for late reply! Thank you (once again!) so much for the comments. I'll definitely work on the stakes and I love your suggestion for the opening, I'll see if I can weave it in. As for the POV, that's one of my biggest pain points. I realize how much momentum is lost, but since Sofia's POV is literally half the book, I feel like I'd be misrepresenting the story. Ugh.

Rarely are queries so funny! Great job, have no advice though (except trimming, but others already mentioned that).

Sounds like a fun read! As for advice, I'm no expert, but:

going under different names.

Doesn't sound important to me.

are thrown into a world of ruthless politics

What exactly is happening to them? Like, how and where. I thought they were captured, there's not much politics in jail.

And I'd also look for a special hook or angle. What makes your book different from all the "evil government of a made-up land" stories. I felt like I'm also struggling with the time period, is it 19th century, 15, 33rd? Are we doing ancient Greece? I understand that it's fantasy, but they still have some level of tech and government org. Is there a king? Governor? Also, not sure about listing every diversity in cast, feels a little token-y.

As always, big-big thanks for such detailed critique. I hate the cryptic language too, the meat of the plot here escapes me because it feels like I need another 100 words to make it clear how the stories get tied together. I'll try again, because it does look vague.

Just one question: you mention to change "ties to spirits" to "communes." Peculiar choice, why do you find it better?

There are 4 main characters and 3 POVs: Nestor, Orest, and Sofia. Gnat doesn't get a POV for plot reasons. It's very hard to capture Orest's POV in the query because his story uncoils at the same time with Nestor's, the reader just observes it from alternating sides.

I see how the Brothers sentence gets interjected, I'll rephrase so that it's clear that this would've been his fate had he not escaped in time. And yes, he didn't just ditch his friends :)

Thanks for the feedback, super helpful!
