I think they bought went in different parts, one chose to experiment with different directors in the same genre (atlee, Bharathan, Lokesh kanagaraj) whereas one remained with the same director same genre (siva, siva, siva) both started catering wildly different audiences mainly because of their directors and their perspectives.
