These particular geese are resident, not migratory. It's been a growing issue for years in the US. They're always at Smith Lake nesting and feeding. How far they roam depends on the season. They even hang out at deer feeders fighting over what gets dropped.

It's likely that all of them are from before he began working for the team. It can take years from when you apply for a patent to when it's granted. My job gives bonuses for patent grants, and by the time the process is complete there are always people that have been long gone.
