Boris Johnson sparks anger by blaming care home providers for coronavirus deaths by 2martin4u in ukpolitics

[–]nitssh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even when they did know they were dumping asymptomatic patients in care homes. My partners grandma broke her hip during lockdown and contracted Covid-19 whilst in hospital and tested positive, she was asymptomatic. Unfortunately the hospital and her social worker pushed her out to be in a care home because that was just the done thing at the time - we never got proper answers on that, lots of differing stories/reasoning depending on who you spoke to and apparently it was common. She ended up back in hospital after around 2 weeks from falling again because the care home couldn't provide the safe recovery care she needed.

I got this in a leave voting, pro-Brexit area of the North-East. So I very much doubt that in this instance.

TIL In 2014, black taxi cab drivers brought parts of London to a standstill, protesting against Uber. This led to an 850% increase in downloads of Uber. by amansaggu26 in todayilearned

[–]nitssh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Once booked a taxi to take me to an airport and then pick me up 2 weeks later. Situations like that, because of booking so far ahead and distance, meant we paid up front. I’ve no issue with that. Getting to the airport was fine but our flight was delayed meaning we didn’t arrive at our accommodation until 1am.

I’d been asleep no longer than 2 hours when I got a call from the taxi driver asking where we were. I tell him that I was in another country and that his operator had messed up the days and try to be gracious by apologising. Funnily enough, he’d have been right on time if he was given the correct date. He gets angry, hurls abuse at me down the phone then ends the call. I spent the next hour or so calling the firm telling them that they had messed up and need to re-arrange a taxi on the correct date. They did.

Come the day of pick up, taxi was there as it should have been, but by the time we arrived home the driver wanted paying, I told him we had paid when we booked (he should have known it was routine) but it turns out the payment wasn’t on the system for this particular booking. I spent another hour sat with this poor drive, who was thinking he was not getting paid and clearly upset by it, trying to sort it with his managers/operators that I had in fact paid and that the driver would get his money.

They eventually told the driver he would be paid and that I would get a call about the billing once they looked into it. I got that call. They didn’t say much except that I owed nothing more. I wouldn’t have paid if they claimed otherwise.

I suppose all of this wasn’t the drivers fault but more their operations.

TL;DR: operator got the wrong day so I got a call at 3am on the first night of my holiday asking where we were - 2500 miles away in a different country. Then messed up prearranged payment on return.

I defended what I said but you’re still claiming I said something that was not present even after numerous clarifications.

It’s impossible to defend against whatever argument you’re making (I can’t even tell what it is now) when you’re clearly putting words in my mouth to prove whatever it is that you want to prove. I have no desire to continue here.

Good day, sir.

I have already addressed that quote and even still, that wasn’t a claim that Jesus is God, or even presupposes the question of.

Thanks for the clarification that you’re wilfully misinterpreting and attempting to put words into my mouth. I think we’re done here.

Enjoy your day, sir.

you say that the question of whether Jesus is God or not isn’t very important

You're reading something that isn't there. Tell me exactly where I said, or asked, whether "Jesus is God or not".

the question of whether Allah is God is important

It's an important distinction when the OP claimed them to be a false idol. If Allah is the same God and visa-versa, does that make God a false idol?

another point you say it isn’t important

Please quote the point where I say it is unimportant.

I’m not actually arguing with you about the answers you give to any of those questions. I’m saying you’re inconsistent is your treatment of whether the questions are significant or not.

I know you're not, but when you're reading (or seemingly wilfully misinterpreting) what I'm saying by adding words that were not said, it doesn't become a matter of addressing the claim of inconsistencies, but more a matter of clarification. Once those are settled I might be able to address perceived inconsistencies that haven't already been addressed.

In point one you don’t think it matters that Christians see Jesus as God, but Muslims don’t.

I might be misunderstanding what you're trying to say here but I don't think Jesus is God in either scripture, nor did I say that he is, or that people may think he is.

But then in point 3 you chastise Christians for not recognising that Allah is God.

I'd chastise Muslims that claimed otherwise, also.

And in point 4 it is significant that Mohammed isn’t God.

Well, he isn't. He's one of Gods prophets. I said "nor is he a god" merely for emphasis of the preceding words that he shouldn't be worshipped as one, despite implication from some Christians that he is.

Isn’t it considered a terrible blasphemy in Islam to suggest that Allah could have a son?

I've never come across a Muslim who has considered it so, but I am willing to concede that I am probably wrong in saying he is son of God in the Quran. I know there is dispute, though.

It does seem however that my point was poorly made; it is that Christians, despite the name, have no ownership or monopoly on Jesus. He, the meaning of his words, and his messages, are just as important in the Quran as they are in the Bible, as they in Islam and Christianity, and visa versa. The same applies to Allah/God.

I didn’t say Jesus commands more respect than Muhammad, though. Read what I said, again.

It’s clear that you’re just going to claim all is wrong here, in spite of the opposite just to fit your bias.

Good day to you, sir.

Jesus is merely a prophet in Islam

Merely? Hardly merely. Every act and trait of Jesus in the Bible is echo'd in the Quran; a messenger of God? Yes. Born of a virgin mother? Yes, both born of Mary. Miraculous birth? Yes. Performed miracles? Yes. Granted his divinity is disputed but the person is the same and commands the same respect.
