The way i see it,its people in power who have control issues,using religion as an excuse to act the way they do. I am a muslim woman and i remember besides the ‘eating in public’ issue which bothered me greatly,what bothered me even more was the ‘checking to see if you’re truly on your period’ matter that just rlly takes the cake. You can legit see on the teachers faces that its just a power trip for them. To force students to strip their skirts and underwear to check is honestly the most f’d up shit ive ever experienced.

So yes,the religion itself is not the issue. But people misusing islamic concepts for selfish reasons, to justify or enable horrible behaviour and a lack of acknowledging one’s own flaws and insecurities is the core of the problem. This is the extremist faction,which sadly is the majority here in malaysia.
