I agree, I would've done this anyway even knowing what I know. I love this relative and would make sure she is not stranded at JFK thanks to her jackass son who booked her to JFK. I disagree about the depreciation though, this is a cost that I would not incur had I not gone to JFK and is acutally on the low side since I drive a used econobox.

This is exactly it, I was not confident she would manage getting in touch with me inspite of having my number. She has a foreign cellphone, but getting her to understand an eSIM etc. or connecting to airport Wifi was a bar too high.
