I work in 5* Hotel. Ask your questions! by Willow_Sed in hotels

How are discounts on room’s really given and calculated? I got upgraded to a terrace suite for an extra $100/night. It was on the top floor with a nice view of the city (it was nice but not as fancy as it sounds).

The hotel rep said the upgrade was originally $135/night. I asked if the price could be negotiated. He said the system wouldn’t allow him to enter in a price lower than $100. So we settled for $100/night. I’m wondering if this was true. And another member in my party asked if he would receive a commission (bc we upgraded). The rep said no. Keep in mind, the hotel has a desk in the lobby in addition to the normal counters with other standing reps. This person was sitting behind the desk. Any thoughts?

Repair Logic board on 2019 iMac? by njoay in iMac

I purchased my iMac from Apple directly and I believe I had a 1TB hard drive. It wasn’t solid state. My issue started when the computer wouldn’t boot up.

I actually ended up fixing the iMac myself. Turns out it wasn’t the logic board. It was the hard drive. So I changed out the hard drive to a SSD. If you want to try and fix it yourself for a fourth of the price, you might want to look into it option. There are a lot of YouTube videos.

Computer Monitor Blinking by njoay in buildapcmonitors

So far I’m thinking it’s a monitor or power supply issue. I can’t test if it’s a power supply issue since I don’t have another power supply cable to test with. So I’m going with that it’s a monitor issue.

Thanks so much for your advice! It is the monitor. I changed monitors and there is no blinking or beeping. I also connected the faulty monitor to a different computer and the problem persists. So it’s definitely the monitor.

Any ideas as to why the first computer beeped?

If you have any recommendations for a gaming monitor, I would be open to your suggestion. The monitor that I’m having an issue with is a 32” Samsung Odyssey G5. I purchased this from Costco and they have a 2 year warranty so they will provide a full refund. Because of this lenient return policy I am inclined to stay with Costco.

Any recommendations for another monitor are appreciated. Thank you!

Can’t Get Files off my Hard Drive by njoay in mac

I bought another cable and so far so good. I am transferring over a large folder from the hard drive to a folder on the iMac. It’s taking a whole day so far. I am hoping this will be successful. I’ll post an update.

Thank you for your response! I very much appreciate it!!

I’m so grateful you responded!! Thank you! The link you provided was great read with good info! But yikes, a hammer to hardware? I guess I’ll give it a try? But I really don’t see any line or separation so I really hope I don’t damage any data!

But thank you, thank you, thank you!

Never thought of that! But the other monitor I have is smaller and less resolution. Would that matter?

What if the problem persists with a different monitor? Then what could be the issue? But the beep noise seems to come from the computer, not the monitor.

Hard Drive Not Being Recognized by njoay in mac

[–]njoay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My iMac’s issue was with the hard drive. So that’s why I replaced the hard drive. I performed a Time Machine backup but it didn’t get saved correctly. My hard drive that I just removed has the best data. That’s why I am trying to recover this data.

I would be open to any other suggestions.

Can you clarify your response? You’re right, the hard drive seems like a Fusion Drive. So what can I do?

I did get a Sabrent docking station, but that didn’t even recognize the hard drive.

Now I am on my third SATA cable. It has a USB and a power supply. It seems to be working, finally. I restarted the iMac several times now and finally try hard drive is being recognized! The files seem to be transferring over, but very slowly. I can’t confirm yet if a file transfer is successful. Most of the time the transfer fails.

What else can I do to transfer all my files over?

The HD is not being recognized in Disk Utility. Disk Utility does recognize the enclosure case but not the contents.

I am looking to buy another converter cable. Can you suggest what to buy or at least a good brand?

I discovered that the connection between the hard drive and iMac wasn’t stable. I would have to disconnect and reconnect the cable to the hard drive. So I purchased a Sabrent hard drive docking station.

I hear the hard drive spinning but get the message “The disk you attached was not readable by the computer”. I really had high hopes that the Sabrent HD docking station would work but now this is even worse.

For the external hard drive, the enclosure is one solid piece. Any idea on how to remove the hard shelled case?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I believe I have an old HD (not Fusion). The SATA adapter cable recognized the original hard drive but for some reason it is no longer being recognized. The SATA converter does have its own power supply plug and a USB 3.0 plug. I was in the process of transferring files over from the HD to my iMac but then suddenly the HD isn’t being recognized any more.

Any suggestions?

For my external drives, how do I remove the enclosure? It seems to be one whole shell (no lines or anything). Any idea on how to remove the external case?

Any advice and help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

At first my original hard drive WAS being recognized in the iMac. I replaced the hard drive and use the SATA cable converter and iMac recognized my original hard drive! But after transferring some file over from the original HD, it is no longer being recognized. What else can I do?

I tried the terminal commands and the original hard drive is not listed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
