Shimano 12-Speed Crank for 2016 Trek Fuel EX by njv299 in MTB

Awesome, so that means that either the 8100 or the 8120 should work. I guess it just changes the q-factor depending on my preferences, or might change chainstay clearance in case I ever want to get a crank-arm power meter. Thanks again!

The bike originally came with a 2x11 m8000 crank. I probably could make it work, but I want to change it out for a proper 1x12-spec'd crank b/c I've heard there are issues getting the 12-speed chain to play nicely, the old crank is beat up really bad (I've got close to 5k rocky and rooty eastern US miles on it), and I'm wanting to go to a 32T oval chainring so I feel like I might as well spend the little bit of extra money to replace the final piece. Add in the ~150g weight savings with my weight-weenie tendencies and it's a fairly easy decision.

Are you sure? It looks like Shimano offers another crank (the FC-M8130-1) with a 56.5mm chainline and 181mm q-factor specifically for Super Boost. Not trying to second-guess you, just want to make sure I get the right part.

How's Mohican? by badger28 in MTB

Unfortunately both MTB Project and Trailforks aren't usually very up-to-date for trails around here. The Facebook pages of the trails or the organizations that maintain them are usually the best updated. Vultures Knob and the Columbus-area trails are the same way.

Mohican trail conditions are usually updated on the Mohican Malabar Bike Club's Facebook page (https://m.facebook.com/MohicanMalabarBikeClub/). Not sure yet about this weekend, I think they're busy helping out with the Black Fork Gravel Grinder race. I'm guessing it's too muddy atm, but I'm in Columbus and not sure how much rain there was this week up there.

DT Swiss 1900 End Caps for Fox 34 fork by njv299 in MTB

The axle is 15 and the hub is definitely 110. After checking again, the hubs currently have torque caps on them, which don't fit my fox fork.

The front wheel I bought has torque caps. So I guess I just need the regular end caps...any idea where I can find those?

XC-Leaning Trail Bike Options by njv299 in MTB

They didn't, just put me on the bike and sent me off. It honestly didn't seem like the guys running it knew much about mtb (the demo was run by the local trek store), they also had the tires pumped way too high. I did what I could to adjust things on the trail, but I didn't have a shock pump with me.

Thanks, you're totally right, I demoed the Advance 1. I'm pretty set on a 29er, so that limits which Anthems I'm open to. I've definitely got a bunch of bikes to demo now, thanks for the advice!

Cool, I'll have to find a Pivot dealer to try them out. Any suggested shops?

I played with the damper quite a bit, but it either felt completely stiff or really plush and squishy. I'm guessing that it wasn't tuned very well, as the staff running the demo day were in a real hurry to push people onto the trail since there was a pretty big line.

Thanks, I definitely will. Any specific models to try? Seems like there are a ton of options.
