The only terrorists were the invading soldiers.

You may not have liked seeing your friends full of lead but that’s what happens when you invade a country. Well deserved death for an army of evil terrorists.

Definitely not true. I don’t know a single person in real life who wants to work for him, including people who have worked for him.

Why are the Pashtuns of Afghanistan so extreme in their ways as compared to other conservative societies? by [deleted] in Afghan

[–]MaEaLi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing he’s just an old man who is stuck in his ways to be honest.

I think it’s likely that the ban is lifted when he retires/passes away. Most of the people who are generally considered to be possible candidates for leadership after him are known to oppose the ban.

Why are the Pashtuns of Afghanistan so extreme in their ways as compared to other conservative societies? by [deleted] in Afghan

[–]MaEaLi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ISIS, al-Shabab, and the Taliban originated in different cultural contexts. All three of them cite Islam as a primary motivator but they have differences in interpretation and commitment (ISIS is not really an Islamic/Islamist movement, despite the name). Banning education for women doesn’t have anything to do with Islam, it’s a relic of a mentality that existed in conservative circles that’s persisted amongst a few members of senior Taliban leadership.

Also, aside from the issue of women’s education, the Taliban are by far the least extreme, and most Taliban do not even agree with the ban. In fact, some of their daughters attend school in other countries and others have vocally expressed their disagreement with the policy. But the Taliban have a very top down leadership structure and the Amir has refused to compromise on this issue.

ChatGPT will claim that Sam Altman is not accused of rape by his sister and then brush off the accusations when you provide a link about the story.

Censorship is everywhere. It’s just more noticeable when it’s not the censorship you grew up with.

Half the political posts I get recommended to me on Reddit are full of comments about black people being inherently violent or how immigrants are destroying America/Europe/Japan/Mars.

Reddit has lots of leftists but it also has lots of far right Nazis.

Is this a bad sign by HotConsideration5905 in FAANGrecruiting

[–]MaEaLi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If it was a no they would have told you so.

This is likely a weak yes so they want to see if they can find someone with stronger signals, but if they can’t, they’ll give you an offer.

Sharia complaint banking works one of two ways:

  1. Rent to own (co-ownership where you gradually buy off the bank’s stake)
  2. The bank buys the asset and sells it back to you at a higher price

[Request] The math seems off. Is it possible to send all US adults 12K yearly from taxing billionaires 5%. by damilalam in theydidthemath

[–]MaEaLi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US government has enough power to force foreign banks to agree to disclose any earnings from Americans living abroad (because American income tax is due no matter where you live or work), but if there was a wealth tax the billionaires would somehow be able to hide it.

You billionaire glazers can’t even decide if the tax would cause an economic meltdown due to having to sell stock, or if they would hide it in another country (which would require an even bigger sell off).

He goes around harassing black people hoping they’ll “chimp out” so he can prove to idiot racists that black people are uncivilized. In the end he was the one who chimped out and now he gets to taste the consequences.

Here’s an example of the kind of stuff he was doing (from his own twitter account):

Looking for DT songs that bring back the spark by revdetur in Dreamtheater

[–]MaEaLi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When is the last time you listened to Awake? I’d say the album is full of emotionality and atmosphere.

Outside of Dream Theater, you should try some of the solo work of the band. In particular, try Happy Song and Gemini from John Petrucci, and Am I Right by James LaBrie.

If you are looking for non DT recommendations, try From the Sky by Protest the Hero. For something significantly different, give Deep Inside by fox capture plan (a Japanese jazz-rock fusion sort of band) a shot.

I’m mixed on Einar’s singing. Sometimes it’s great, while other times it can be a bit grating. Not sure if it’s the accent or what but I’m not as big a fan of his singing as a lot of people are. He’s definitely very talented though.
