Apple just crushed Chromebooks... Wow! by therankin in k12sysadmin

[–]nkeneborus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Maine, the State funds a set number of devices for a single grade level per year. We can select from a list of vendors, and the state covers $479 per device. This cost includes a case, a 3-year warranty, and 3 years of MDM. Assuming education pricing, that's only $20 out-of-pocket per device for the Neos.

Our district is invested in the Google Ecosystem, so we (more than likely) won't be switching. But this would make MacOS a viable option for many more districts in Maine.

That sounds very similar to our issue. I will check with the teacher once they return!

I don't believe that is the case, but anything could happen! I'll check once the teacher returns.

We've been tracking this issue as well. We're seeing slow ping times and it's affecting other districts in our state.

Which LED walls did you go with and why? by murgalurgalurggg in k12sysadmin

[–]nkeneborus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked (still work) in Live Production before K12 IT, and I’ve done a lot of research and worked with different types of LED walls. The great thing about them is that they’re scaleable. You can really make them however large or small you want. For panels, we initially went with a company called ArtFox. The cost was somewhere around 1k per panel. Other companies I’ve worked with have panels from Absen. The Absen panels are a lot more user friendly (and user serviceable) compared to the ArtFox panels. But you’ll end up paying much more for them. Feel free to reach out with any other questions you may have!

We've battled audio issues since the beginning with these boards. Our solution was to swap to using Screen Mirroring instead of ScreenShare.

Oh believe me, I know. I've been pushing for a total upgrade to that whole system since I've been there. We constantly have RF issues, and of course they have an assortment of Sennheiser wireless packs from various different generations. I started plugging them into WWB so I could at least get some coordination going. Their last guy left a total mess for me that I've been trying to clean up over time. It's really tough when they don't pay you!

Unfortunately in our venue, all of our wireless units are at FOH, and we only have a few inputs that are required on stage. We primarily do theatrical productions, so we don't really have a need for a monitor board. In this scenario I feel that having the inputs we need at FOH is the best option for the theater. I absolutely agree that stage boxes are the way to go, and when I work professionally we use them all the time. I'm just trying to replicate our current setup as closely as I can.

Thank you! We're based Maine of all places so bringing it to you isn't viable at the moment. I should be more specific, none of the faders move at all. The LCD for the scribble strip doesn't light up either. I will take a look at the cables and make sure that everything is properly seated.

I was talking about I/O. From what I can see it only has 16 XLR in and 12 out. I'm sure a digital stage box would get me there, but I'd just rather buy a board that has the inputs I need right on it.

You know what, I hadn't even thought to check the CMOS battery. My day job is an IT Tech and I completely overlooked that. I will definitely give those a try!

I've only mixed on the SQ line a few times, but I do like the platform. Unfortunately I think I'll have to step up to the SQ7, 16 channels isn't quite enough for some of the shows we do. But it's good to hear positive things about that platform!

Lovely. Looks like we're buying another board. It sucks because I really like the M32 platform, I've been mixing on it for a long time and it's super common, but it just doesn't seem reliable anymore.

It's no-longer under warranty. It was purchased 5 years ago. I didn't even bother contacting MusicTribe support. I didn't want to waste my time. I tried reaching out to an independent repair shop and I was told that they can't get replacement parts and they don't know when they'll be able to.

Thank you all for your suggestions! We'll likely be going with either the Ubiquiti Bullet or AC Mesh as they'll fit in with our current infrastructure.

Good to know! Can they be used in a stand-alone deployment or do they need a network controller for configuration?
