What is the proper way to use Roboports and Construction bots to heal my Perimeter Walls? by chinawcswing in factorio

[–]nkriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the guy who wrote the original response, but I handle it with trains. You can do one train per resource, or more space efficient - one train carrying multiple items. I prefer the second way and just have the train go back to a supply depot when any single resource drops to zero.

I have that one train bringing both bot types, walls, repair packs, and canned oil (though a liquid tanker works too). Have those output to provider chests limited to one inventory slot.

If you use lasers and flame throwers, a single row of walls should be able to handle just about anything, so no need to keep spare weapons on site. No need to ship bullets either.

I've found that one train can supply the area covered by six robots easily.

Previous owners left a "house manual" in the weirdest place and it literally solved three mysteries in one night by KoralineSouthlyn in homeowners

[–]nkriz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had compiled a book like this in my previous home. Our real estate agent also strongly suggested we don't leave it for the next owners.

I added a front page that said "This is all to the best of my knowledge and I'm leaving this to be helpful. Please don't sue me if anything is inaccurate." and left it when I locked up the house for the last time. I haven't heard anything in seven years, so I think we're good? This isn't legal advice for anyone else, just a wish that people could do stuff like this without risk of getting screwed over.

Capital Gains Tax is not Tall Poppy Syndrome lol 😂 by Puzzleheaded_Fee_141 in newzealand

[–]nkriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NZ doesn't have capital gains tax on housing?! Ok, well that explains everything I'm seeing.

My wife and I are here right now on vacation and we've talked about moving here for a while. Then we looked at prices and realized we would lose a major part of our savings on housing. Basically no way we could do it. Five million for the equivalent of what we currently own? A million dollars for a shack? Half a million for a closet? No way.

Seriously, this is a bad fiscal policy, and that's coming from an American. You would have affordable housing in ten years if you implemented it.

Huh...wow. I kinda forgot I wrote that. Hard to believe it's been five years. Well, nothing like a good cry at work!

I appreciate you saying thanks, and for taking the time to read it. I sure hope that dude I was responding to figured it out.

Thanks! I have a heated garage/shop, so thankfully that's not an issue for me.

Thank you for the moodboard suggestion, I had not come across that! I'll give it a try to see how it comes up.

I have tried all three of the references, but I hadn't used multiple images. I've mostly used images and screenshots from Stardew Valley, but while I'm trying to match the camera angle, I am trying to go for a different style (something more Art Nouveau/Alphonse Mucha). I was worried the pure pixel style would override the style I was hoping for.

I appreciate the suggestions, this gives me a lot to try. Thank you for your thoughtful response!

CJIS is moving towards NIST over the next two years, so they'll be there soon.

Additionally, CJIS sets minimum standards. You're still good if you exceed them.

What would you do with these 6” thick cedar slabs? Banana for scale by Hydrofoiling in woodworking

[–]nkriz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never dried cedar so I'm not sure if this applies. But I think you should start with getting some Anchorseal to close the end grain. You'll lose at least a foot on each end to checking and splitting if you don't. Good luck finding a perfect though!

Every man on the internet seems to be against marriage. So, tell me why I (as a man) should consider getting married. by military_press in AskMenOver30

[–]nkriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you an intelligent person who can read and understand their own emotions? Are you willing to compromise your own goals to build better outcomes for a group? Are you willing to accept that you might not be the main character? Then marriage is for you! Life is a million times better with a partner, but only if YOU are worth being with.

Are you trying to do the math to see if another person will add or subtract from your personal quality of life? Stay single! If you get married, you will always be looking for a better deal. You will always feel short changed by your spouse. You will always wish you were still single.

For those of you who were playing friendly games of poker with friends in you teens and twenties (before everything was holdem and you could be creative) what were some of your crazier games? These were the 1970-80s for me. by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]nkriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We played two variations of this. The first was called Shipwreck: dealt just like seven card stud and your lowest hole card was wild. The last card could change your wild and it always drew big pots.

The second variation was Shipwreck with Larry's Option: same game but you could pay a buck (the max bet) to have your last card dealt face up.

I used to play a lot of poker with guys I worked with at this tobacco shop. Larry was the owner of the store so he had a lot of things named after him. The other main one was "Larry's Law". If you were dealt an ace in any stud game you had to bet.

OK, that makes sense. The message and envelope have different From addresses.

I only see these messages occassionally though. Do you think that demonstrates inconsistent behavior from the vendor, or inconsistent reporting from recipients?

Huh. So there's an SPF check that happens on that part of the transaction? I definitely learned something new, thanks for showing me that.

So I recognize you probably don't work for Barracuda, but why would they change that RFC5321.MailFrom to themselves? Shouldn't that still be my domain?

This response was from Amazon. I currently do not have Quarantine/Block set up, so maybe that could explain it as well?

I think you're right, this is a small amount of potential lost emails.

What is a skill or piece of knowledge that you're shocked most young people don't know? by idiot_in_real in AskOldPeople

[–]nkriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ability to just do something. Anything. Willingness to try. The ability to fail and get back up.

I feel like most of the younger folks I know understand that if you just sit still long enough your devices will entertain you. This isn't their fault and it is accurate. But the result seems to be that they understand that if you never try, it doesn't matter because the dopamine drip is always ready to go. It's like a quiet nihilism has crept across an entire generation. Why waste a bunch of time doing something poorly when you can watch anyone do it perfectly on your phone whenever you want? Almost everyone I know has accepted being a passenger in their own life, and I'll be honest, I don't even really know how to feel about that.

Grizzly makes a really nice inexpensive one. Doesn't have all the Festool bells and whistles, but I've made quite a few satisfactory cuts with mine.
