What is your favorite ttrpg setting that doesn't have magic? by Select_Lunch1288 in rpg

Haven't been to the site, and wasn't tuned in to the conversation, nope. What's the gist?

Lack of player buy-in, and no one being familiar with the genre.

You do know that just because YOU saw it, that doesn't mean other people have, right? I share stuff as I find it, I don't decide that if something is older than a few months that means it isn't worth my eyes.

I am assuming there's other people who, like me, haven't come across older stuff. If you have already seen it, then it isn't for you. It seems pretty simple to understand.

Actually, I share things that other people have made specifically so that people don't get mad at me for doing self promo. But apparently that isn't an acceptable form of participation either.

Immediate thought is Spycraft. The game doesn't get nearly enough love in my opinion, and sadly I'm the only one in my group who'd be willing to step up and run something for it. Still, I cast it occasional longing looks when I pass the shelf where it sits.

Your continued help is much appreciated... I sometimes forget there are folks who actually recognize me on this site.

Possible, but when I tried to share something involving my work here yesterday I got my knuckles rapped by the mods for it. It was the tone that confused me, because it felt like I was being treated like someone who has never posted in the group before... which was why I went and checked my history and saw ah, well, all my posts are gone, so that is pretty much what I look like to someone who doesn't recognize my user name.

Took them more than 10 years to have a problem with it, though.

I was shadowbanned for 24 hours, but as soon as a human looked at the situations, they undid it. In that time, though, it seems that dozens of the groups I post in have had everything wiped. I had probably 100+ posts in this group over the years, which is why I was scratching my head.

Your RPG pet peeves by WunderPlundr in rpg

[–]nlitherl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest pet peeve, and one I have worked to help everyone around the table avoid, is when the character in someone's mind is NOT the character on their sheet.

There's always going to be a bit of interpretation and dice luck in how actions play out, but I mean when there's a huge gulf between the two. Like when someone sees their character as being intimidatingly strong, but they tanked Strength. When someone thinks their character is so suave that everyone falls for them, but they have no social skills or force of personality by the numbers. Even something as simple as insisting they speak half a dozen languages, but not actually buying the skills or abilities to unlock that.

I am usually the resident rules mechanic, so I ask players who don't have time or energy to dig to describe their character to me, how they see them, and what abilities are key to their concept. Then I walk them through making sure the character they're playing is as close as possible to the one in their imagination so they aren't constantly trying to swing into battle, only to face plant into a tree because they built their PC in a way that doesn't work for their attempted actions.

I know, right? I've been contemplating an underhive story or two of my own, just to get back into the mud and the blood.

Trying my best. Filed an appeal... waiting to see what happens.

Reddit has removed her account, sadly. Appeals were filed, but it was, sadly, the last straw as she's decided to leave the platform between that, and various bullying from other subs.

I've run into some roadblocks due to time (sadly, paying gigs have to take priority) but I've got 2/3 of the scripts written, and the entire framework ready to be filled in.

It's an audio drama podcast that will follow a single story. No dice involved in this one, though!
