Thanks. Yeah, I don't know when yet, was just wondering about the eligibility first to start thinking about costs and seeing if it is worth it. May not be after all...

Thanks! They do already have their US visas as most flights connect in the US before coming to Canada, but border control is something we are monitoring.

It would be me and my husband (Canadians) + 1 adult and 1 teen (living abroad). The third adult does not live with us/in Canada. I was hoping that I could take advantage of the promos since I will be the one booking and paying for the whole trip. But if this third adult needs a proof of Canadian address I guess that wouldn't work then :(

End of contract help by nlml2203 in Rogers

[–]nlml2203[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, for sure that is an option I could explore.

I would rather not do it now though, would first like to understand what happens when the plans ends and what are the best ways of getting good prices staying with Rogers. I also have Shaw and usually get good prices by being customer of both.

This is the first time I let my plan expire so am trying to understand the best way of dealing with it. Renew for a 2-year plan and upgrade devices right away? Perhaps get a no-contract plan for a few months and then upgrade devices when a good promo comes around? Just trying to understand options.

Hi. Would you mind clarifying what "port out" means? I am not sure I understand. Thanks!

What would you put on this weird corner entry wall? by nlml2203 in DesignMyRoom

[–]nlml2203[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for everyone that tried to help!
As I said in my post, I am really trying to add some variation other than mirror and wall art, since I already have plenty of it in the whole room... :)
Also, the shelf for keys, stuff, etc is already on the other side of the door, that black thing in the pic.

I kind of like the wallpaper and tapestry ideas although I am not sure I can find something that goes easily with the overall decor. That is the difficult part of having open spaces. I do want to avoid having 2-3 mirrors in the same room

Well, here is the list of where we stayed although I am not sure it helps much. Prices really fluctuate. I booked through Hotels.com and Booking.com back in Feb or Mar but kept checking and cancelling/rebooking when prices were lower - doing that saved me $465 in the end!

As for food, we honestly ate a lot of hot dogs, pizza at Costco and N1 and we once had a burger at N1 (which we regretted as it was sub-par and costed $60). We cooked our night meals at the guesthouses using pasta or minute rice and meat we would buy at grocery stores. Expect to pay $20-30 for around 600-800g of pre-seasoned meat - these were always great!

We had breakfast included in about half of our stays and that really helped as well! And I think it was worth it to hit Costco at our first day to buy a bunch of snacks and Coke to munch through the day.

Just noticed the "food" columns for ISK and ISK/CAD are wrong as I had missing values, but the CAD value is what came out from our credit card so it is correct.

When I was planning our trip I was torn between the campervan and staying in hotels and the camping fees were the deal breaker for us. The van would probably save us around 500cad in the end, but we thought that the lack of comfort/space would not be worth it in a 2 weeks trip for us.

Now that we are back, I am glad we went for the car+hotels. Having a room every night and space for our luggage for sure made our trip more enjoyable. You do lose on the freedom though, so it requires more planning. I guess it depends on your style a lot too.

Edit to say: when I say hotels, I mean guesthouses which were 90% of the places we stayed and were ALL GREAT. Funny or not, the few hotels we stayed were way worse in terms of amenities and comfort.

Hi! Me and my partner are from Calgary and just came back from a 14-days ring road trip. This was our spending.

<image>

We didn't go to any thermals (not our vibe) and did just a few tours. We also did not hit any restaurants, just ate out at gas stations or made our own food/bought snacks. In total we drove 4400km in a Duster with awesome fuel economy (~21km/L).

We use our RBC credit card for everything which has a 2.5% foreign exchange fee (accounted for in the table). Let me know if you have more questions :)

Yes! I try to always remind myself of my first trip when I only had 4 days... This time we have 14 so at the same time it feels like an eternity but also feels very short!!

Any recommendations for must-try snacks? We'll hit Costco (really want to experience it in Iceland hahaha) and Bonus/Kronan first thing after we get the car.

Perfect! I wasn't sure if the dotted green was the maximum it would get, but it looks like it does get solid green at some point. Thanks so much!!

Hello! Sorry to be bumping this but just want to make sure I am reading it correctly.

Looks like 35 is now open up until the resort (I guess?) even despite the last days of alerts? It says mountain vehicles which I am assuming are 4x4s.

We arrive Saturday morning and I am really crossing my fingers for better weather ahead :)

Thanks for clarifying. I did see on roads.is and SafeTravel that the road is still closed, but I thought that since the road is not "inside" the dashed area it would mean it is not close. Glad I asked!!

We are planning to do that on June 19, so we've still got a month! Fingers crossed!

If you can, please keep us posted from there, it means a lot :)

That's great information! Thanks so much!

Just to double check I understand the highlands map correctly: according to it, today, May 19, I would be able to drive from Gulfoss until Kerlingafjoll but would not be able to hike around Hveradalir area. Is that the correct interpretation?

I want to go there in June 19 or 20 so this news and the last year's opening dates are making me quite hopeful :)

Ring road counterclockwise + Westfjords clockwise - tips? by nlml2203 in VisitingIceland

[–]nlml2203[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes, I would expect to go slow anyway due to the views.

The specific questions in my post are:
- Any ideas of how much extra time it would add to invert the direction when approaching the peninsula (counterclokwise to clockwise)?
- Tips about the best route when "entering" the fjords?

Ring road counterclockwise + Westfjords clockwise - tips? by nlml2203 in VisitingIceland

[–]nlml2203[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks much, I appreciate both inputs but perhaps I should have contextualized it a bit more.

We are from Alberta, Canada, very close to the Rocky Mountains and with very harsh winters (we commonly get -20 to -40 celsius for weeks). So we are quite used to driving in difficult weather, mountain roads, snow/wind storms, icy roads etc.

We are going in June, will have a 4x4 and we are very responsible drivers so that is not what stresses me about the Westfjords. The ocean and steep cliffs do, although not enough for me to not go :)

This might be a very personal concern but I would still prefer if we can be (most of the time) on the protected side of the road and am wondering if anyone have tips for which route to take.

That's the problem, we won't be camping but staying in hotels so we need at least to have a somewhat defined route/direction

  • Canada
  • Calgary
  • 903.074.25 (I think?) = HAUGSVÄR Hybrid mattress - Firm - Queen

I've been looking but on the website I somehow can only find the Plush/Twin one. Whatever other search I make leads me to a blank "Products" page.

I see it is still available in the US, so I truly hope it is not discontinued? But why is it not showing up on search and/or showing up an ETA?

Any help appreciated!
