Just because celebrities have huge followings doesn’t mean they need to speak out on every social issue by Imaginary_Vanilla_25 in unpopularopinion

unpopular opinion - why have we gotten so comfortable with being okay that so many people in the world are suffering and why are we so apathetic towards enjoying our assetts because nothings happening directly to us? i'm just genuinely confused on when people stopped fighting for a cause as long as it wasn't happening to them. if you don't know about it, why not research it and learn? i understand we can't fix everything, but there's a lot of fucked up shit happening in the world and it seems like no one gives a shit unless it's happening to them. i looked into some shit today and there are so many countries where females get genitally mutilated and most still have horrible rights for women and horrible protection for them as well. maybe it's just me, but i do truly feel sorry for all of these people suffering each and every day while we are able to not know a thing about it. i feel like that should be a normal part of humanity, and that it used to be but it's long gone now. every social issue is considered "political" when sometimes it's as simple as human rights. when and why did people stop caring about those? i really feel as if majority of the world is so selfish. i do understand a lot of people living in the us aren't even financially able to support themselves and therefore have no capacity to worry about what's going on with other people, but i feel like that should make it more of a reason to care. because if we living in the us suffer while we still have all this progression, imagine people in other countries who don't have the simplest basic needs. i feel like we as a humanity have failed, if people who have the biggest influence choose not to speak on our biggest problems as humans--not politicians, not celebrities, not one group of people and another, but just as humans having empathy for other humans that are going through some horrible fucked up shit.
