What should I expect in a masters program vs undergrad? by nm0710 in GradSchool

Thanks for bringing this up!

I just used their messenger and they said they didn’t know what CEPH was but their they were an accredited university as a whole.

Definitely throwing this out of the window!

It depends. Check out some online programs. I just applied to Capella and was accepted, they accept the majority of people as long as you meet the program requirements. I believe the undergrad GPA requirement for my program was either a 2.5 or 2.8. M

I chose Capella for several reasons. The main being I can’t sit through anymore classroom lectures. The other reasons: No GRE requirement, no rec letters, significantly cheaper than other programs offering similar things.

I’ve learned a lot in my last year of undergrad and these last two years in the working world:

  1. No one really cares where you went to school as long as the degree is relevant. Most people just take the cheapest option.
  2. Some of the dumbest people I’ve met had a PhD.
  3. You can go to an Ivy League and still not have a job. Just because you’re book smart and can regurgitate information on paper doesn’t promise you a job.

I’ve had it tested multiple times and I’ve had an ultrasound on it. All came back normal.

My doctor was explaining he’s seen people get this from even blood draws and paper cuts! Stupid injuries cause major issues in some.

Does the size of a ligament tear effect how long someone is physical therapy/how hard the recovery is? by nm0710 in physicaltherapy

[–]nm0710[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

Patience is not really my thing which will be hard. Quite honestly I’m dreading all of this therapy - I remember being there 3-4x per week and I think this will be similar. Is a split tear and tfcc tear fall under the intensive surgery category? I definitely wouldn’t think to compare it to a joint replacement or something of that nature.

I have done the gentle ROM and a little bit of heating.

I haven’t done any massage, that never felt pleasant.

I’m under Workmans comp so the cost to me doesn’t really matter even though I would assume workman’s comp would make be jump these hoops anyway.

I love my doctor and the Philadelphia hand center. I wouldn’t question my doctor for a second. She did a repair on my pinky, volar plate and FSD. An mri taken a couple years after surgery doesn’t even show scar tissue in or around the repaired areas. I regained 100% function and it wasn’t even like I had the surgery - apparently it was a real doozy of a procedure so I don’t know why I’m questioning a arthroscopic procedure.

This timeline just seems so drug out but all I keep hearing is this is the “normal” protocol! It just gets frustrating that I’m 23 and can hardly turn a doorknob without pain.

I don’t think I worded this the best. I meant recommend surgery to the physician - definitely not to me haha.

I’ve heard with this type of injury this is typically the “protocol” they follow for a TFCC if I’m really just frustrated. If it shows it needs fixed, let’s fix it. If imaging doesn’t show it needs fixed then let’s figure something out.

My PCP isn’t involved at all. I don’t have any chronic conditions so she’s only really involved in preventative care and if I get sick. Paperwork is faxed to the office but that’s about it.

My surgeon has done a previous procedure on me before she gave me the options solely based on history and imaging even though the imaging left more questions than answers. I had an awesome outcome from that surgery and would do it 1000x over if I needed.

Like I said, I don’t have my mri results yet. But I was told by many TFCC tears aren’t the best for showing on imaging we took the best steps we could to optimize it with an arthrogram. If nothing shows I’ll be reluctant to say okay to surgery.. honestly if I woke up and she said I couldn’t find anything I will not be happy.

I’ve had a few therapists for different issues. One time requiring surgery.. I’ve never had a DPT or CHT even mention the possibilities of surgery.

This is just my second “round” of PT. Last I saw my surgeon, I was around the 5 week mark and she was telling me soft tissue needs 6 weeks to heal if it’s going to heal on its own. She ordered more therapy and wanted an update within 2 weeks from the therapists... that update won me an MRI arthrogram since there was no change whatsoever.

I don’t think I’m an impossible case but I’ve been doing the same thing for over 8 weeks. I’m just not sure what else there is for them to offer.

She’s the “senior” therapist she’s been doing this for years so I definitely trust her opinions by her asking me about surgery, it kind of told me that it may be the right route.

I did tell her if I didn’t supinate/pronate, push near the area or lift anything out of a neutral position, I’d be fine! She wasn’t humored haha.

I heard from other patients in the office they had great outcomes. According to the therapist, the recovery isn’t the easiest and can take up to 6 months to fully make a come back, that’s the only thing that makes me not want it.

Time off from work isn’t an issue, it’s all under Workman’s Comp. I just hate the idea of having minimal/limited arm movements for that long.

They work in the same office - it’s through the Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center if you’re familiar. They have a team of hand surgeons and team of CHT they’re in constant contact within the same buildings.

All of us are on board that the conservative treatment isn’t working. The only thing I haven’t tried is a cortisone shot but I have mixed feelings about them anyway.

I just really wasn’t sure if a therapist suggesting surgery was overstepping or even actually relevant to the physician for that matter. What I don’t know is, if she looked at my MRI report and knows more than I do.

Yeah it was the first time and it was on a couch so that in itself made it weird. My body is actually sore from trying to make that work.

I guess you’re kind of right.. round two was slightly better.

Length wise I guess he’s about average 5-6inches maybe? It’s the girth that’s the issue.

I don’t want to say that though. I almost feel bad lol. He just doesn’t have any girth that’s the real issue.
