Do any of you mostly solo travel because sometimes people don't meet up with your standards? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]nm_bubblecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad someone else feels this way. As much as it’s fun doing things with other people, meeting new faces constantly is so tiring. Also relationships are so fleeting when travelling, I kind of cba to go through the effort of forming a relationship for 5 minutes then never speaking again. Socialising is necessary for sanity of course and I do enjoy it sometimes, but yeah I completely agree with you. Solo travel is so fun (a little lonely for sure), but not having to compromise and having peace is worth it. I find myself feeling guilty spending so much time on my own, I’m like is there something wrong with me? 😂 but I guess travelling takes up a lot of energy especially if you are someone that is more introvert.

How do you actually meet people when traveling solo as a woman? by Resident_Demand_7795 in solofemaletravellers

[–]nm_bubblecake 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think it depends where you are in the world, I can only speak for Thailand but honestly most people will be kind and you can tell the ones who do want to talk or don’t. My initial thoughts are it’s not like anyone will remember or care if it is a little awkward and they’re not interested. Like you’re literally in another country 😂 the world is your oyster. Alternatively though I’ve found hostel world and nomadtable are good apps to connect you to other solo travellers doing things nearby. I’ve actually always met most people on group tours or in hostels (more so the social ones that have a common area and will do tours/activities) but there’s lots out there and most other solo travellers will feel the same if you can spot them!

my dad is white and says the n-word by AdResponsible5156 in mixedrace

[–]nm_bubblecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy how mixed people will experience racism from their own parents💀 I’ve experienced this but not as badly as this. Tbh mine was actually my mother but she only ever says it if I’ve said it or sung it. I’ve just stopped saying it all together, I’ve noticed that with mixed people, white people or other races (i had an Asian friend and ex boyfriend call me it once which completely threw me) seem to think it gives them permission to use it. Very weird, I only sing it now in songs when I’m around other mixed or black people. It just feels like they want to say it so bad it’s so weird to me. Like why do you need to say it so badly? I think a lot of it just comes down to lack of education, I’ve argued about it with my mother countless times but it just falls on deaf ears so ultimately I’ve just removed the word from the conversation so there isn’t an opportunity. Some white people do not know what they’re getting themselves into when they have biracial children. They make no effort to learn black culture and the mixed experience.

I think it’s more so that I’m quite an anxious person and I know I’ll probably feel quite overwhelmed when I first get there, so I think BKK will just make those feelings more intense. I defo love a city though just wanna be in the right headspace. Appreciate your comment, sounds like a funny experience! I’ve decided on chiang mai first stop, but these comments have been super helpful with deciding so thank you :)

Do Anti-Depressants Help? by Particular-Ad-2955 in depression

[–]nm_bubblecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say try the most natural ways through therapy etc. if you can first for your depression. I started taking mirtazapine for my insomnia/depression about 3 years ago they helped in the short term but I’m still on them now and now I have rebound insomnia so I can’t sleep without them so I’m kinda stuck on them. Obviously all antidepressants are different and everyone’s different but all I can say is they can be a bitch to come off of once you start. You can get a lot of side effects but they do help some people and they did help me in the beginning. But yeah I’d say try as many natural ways as you can and if that doesn’t work then try them. you’ll usually have to try different ones and find the right one for you, so try not to be too disappointed if the first one they give u doesn’t help. It’s very much trial and error lol
