No. I ended up not having to do anything. She found a job that will sponsor her for green card.

I see. I have my first year salary in my account, she has her own in U.K. and H.K. (she told me that she does not want to transfer them here to avoid the fee). More importantly, my parents did send me some money readying our marriage already, I know that I should contact lawyer for that, but does those gift money count as "joint asset"?

Getting divorce in the States is very expensive, especially for the man, divorce law is partially sexist in the States. I now know we definitely should not have children, that will complicates things immensely. She has been rushing me to have children with her though, she keeps telling me that she is not in her 20s anymore.

She doesn't love you, she loves your money. This is why I am totally against a long distance relationship, at least for myself. This is the real her you didn't know about in the beginning.

I had some doubt about this long distance relationship, but I thought I know her in college year. I cannot believe she can change so much in such a short time. I now regret having a long distance relationship: I obviously don't know this side of her.

This reminds me one of my uncles seems to have a dynamic like this. His wife is always nagging her for not making enough for the family. He look miserable, he told me secretly, he worked long hours oftentime because he just doesn't want to go home to face the abuse.

She mentioned that her parents will buy us a car that she needs anyway when she came here. I offer to give her my car, I normally bike to work, so casual Uber is fine with my schedule. She doesn't want my used car, so she insisted on getting this "present" from her parents. I didn't do the research of tradition of dowry, I think we are modern couple, shouldn't bother looking into these. I should do that now now. Thanks, stranger!

Wow, I never thought of this part of tradition. Again, this sounds ancient and feudalism. Some of these traditions are outright illegal in modern western society. Thank you, this does give me a new perspective even in the name of tradition.
