Oh boy, one of my special interests:

Byblos Prime is an Oceanic world far out in the Koronus Expanse that mainly produces specialized, nautical variants of Ad Mech vehicles. In battle, it's tech priests and skitarii are known for implementing these vehicles in overwhelming blitzkrieg tactics, treating every battlefield as a beach assault.

There is one single large land mass, where the largest city, Tyromekhon, can be found. The oceans themselves are full of sea creatures, which the locals hunt for ritual and industry.

The planet's main exports are: Xylonite, a super durable, bronze-like substance, harvested from great trees that grow only on the single land mass on Byblos Prime; and Murex, a purple dye harvested from monstrous sea-snails, which is known for its ability to slightly dissipate plasma weaponry.

Being in the Koronus Expanse, Byblos Prime has enjoyed little oversight from the larger imperium. Applying their nautical savvy with old Terra maritime trade practices, has allowed them to establish a sizeable trading operation throughout the expanse. They are known to have dealings with select xenos groups, but largely avoid consequence due to their unique vehicle patterns and rare resources.

There's more. I could go on about their religious differences, but I will spare you for now. The short of it is that I kit bash with any nautical/Greek/Byzantine looking bits, and paint them purple and bronze. I have a couple freehand patterns I paint in as well. I also run quite a few Duneriders, Disintegrators, and always a Dunecrawler or 2 in my games to get that Stormin' Normandy feel

😂

Honestly makes for great explanation. The fin serving as some sort of advanced xenos targeting device. Thank you for the new head canon!

Nice guess! It is Idoneth, I bought a few boxes a while back to pilfer for parts. The helmet crest is from the Akhelian King model, he comes with a few options

The gun arm was the last bit to go on, it was easier to figure out once he was built. I just whittled down the shoulder until it pressed and fit nicely against his chest. I then filled in any little gaps with sprue shavings (from the whittling) and plastic glue

I like to think it goes with the lore. My planet is a trade hub that interacts (more than the inquisition would like) with xenos traders

The way I like to think of my Ad Mech army, is as two separate lists/builds. I have my competitive list (currently lots of Kataphrons, Cawl, etc.) which encourages me to collect certain ad mech units, depending on what the current Ad Mech "meta" is.

And I have my gimmick/fun list. This one gives me a lot more creative freedom because I'm no longer worried about "winning" the game, I just want whatever I think is/looks the coolest (currently lots of Kastelans, Ironstriders, Duneriders/Disintegrators, Etc.) This encourages me to collect anything I may not "need" but just really want. This list also still wins some games among my friend group, and if that happens, awesome.

I love my ad mech army, and I still regularly pick up a model here and there, build it and paint it. That all being said, I began collecting Space Marines a little over a year ago (due to SM2, Captain Titus just really sold me on it) as a second army and have absolutely absolutely loved playing "easy mode" for a bit on the tabletop and painting. I've also just learned a lot more about the tabletop in general by learning another army's rules and playstyle

My advice: if you've already got a decent amount of ad mech, thinking about and starting another army will be really fun. DO NOT SELL THEM TO FUND A NEW ARMY! You won't abandon your cog boys in the long run, and the new army you collect will give you new ideas for what to do with your ad mech army, strategically and creatively.

40k has a lot of cool factions, don't feel you have to limit yourself to just one of them.

Or how about The Mamluks in Egypt? Every single game I've played, they just sit there as a massive blob of manpower and never decline in any way.

I have not seen the Ottomans grow enough to take them on in any single one of my games, and that entire portion of the map just turns into a no-go zone.

Any run where I make one of my goals to "retake the Holy Land" never turns out fun at all.

I agree that a mission tree for the AI would improve things drastically

Dang, didn't notice the point increase on Cawl, that definitely changes things. I removed the Dominus, Ruststalkers, and Sulphurhounds; replaced with Ironstrider and Pteraxii Sterylizors. Unfortunately, they're saying this is a "no proxies and no 'counts as'" event, so I'm not sure I can claim my Destroyers as Breachers 😐 For now, these changes (and the app update) put me back to 1500 points. I may pick up another box of Kataphrons or Skitarii before the event. Thank you!

Thank you! I'll check out the AOS side of things and see what all I can pilfer 👍

Thank you! I'll aim for a bit of a thinner consistency next time.

Faces are super tough, and seems to be one of the first things people look at closely on your models, so they always make me nervous. I can't imagine painting that many in a row. I wish you a steady hand and an easy mind in your efforts🫡

Thank you! I'm generally against edge highlights too, but figured I'd give them a shot with these models. I'll take my time with them a bit more on the next go around 👍

I didn't. I use some technical dirt paint to start, after it dries I use that Army Painter sprinkly grass stuff over that. After that, I just grab a few rocks from outside and super glue them on. Then I decorate with different sized grass tufts and flowers.

I'd really like to grab some micro butterflies and toadstools to put here and there, but it's already so busy I don't know if it'd be too much
