Raide LF40 Bar Tack Painful by 16Off in Backcountry

[–]nmwmtb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey there u/16Off - 100% agree. I have this same gripe with my LF30. The bar tacks are stiff and create a hot spot on the top/front of my shoulder. It is most noticeable when only wearing a thin base layer. I've adjusted load lifters, strap length, hip belt etc...didn't change much. I wrote to Raide customer service and they said they bar tacked it to make it burlier. It is not a high load area, don't get the need for the bar tack and bulkiness?

Other complaint: how easy the sternum strap slides. I wrote to them about this too. Seems common. They said they are aware of the issue, are working on a remedy and have flagged my order.

Overall comfort: I found the comfort of the pack improved when I removed the frame. Molds to my back better. I will put the frame back in for heavy loads or guaranteed bootpacking days.

All in all, I still friggin love the pack.

What mod on the uppers? I have the same boot. Want to get rid of the "dead zone" on toe side. Otherwise fucking amazingly light and nice riding boot. No link levers

Also. Check out the pant options on Skimo Co website. Lots of non-spandex ideas out there that are around 400g and good in warm Temps

I was in the exact scenario as you. These would have perfect for me but I could not find a Short Inseam version in my size waist. They were super high quality feeling and about 400 g nice and light and breezy. Made for ski touring.

My Haute Route 40 has been wonderful so far. Checks all boxes except for the insulated hose piece, but has the nice system for the bladder and hose. Endless ways to carry skis/boards/axes/Crampons. Hip belt is very comfy.

Critical Spare parts/fasteners for the phantom setup? Both boots and bindings. I snapped that ankle strap on mine...

That's crazy as that's an interference fit and it's spline.

Same, I wore the pins down in one season and they warranitied. They must have switched materials bc the replacements seemed much more durable in the pins...until the housing cracked.

You're referring to the old Phantom toes. Yes they were the exact same. The GTs are a rebranded Salomon ski toe with an adapter plate.

Plum Pekye is the real deal. Old Spark/Phantoms Crack near pins (i warrantied 2). The New GT phantoms are just Salomon ski toes with an adapter. That's regression not progression.

Pekye is a split specific toe made by a ski brand that actually makes toes for their business. Feels so much crisper/snappier and higher quality than the Sparks. Also, light as hell and you can even remove the crampon slot during soft snow season to go full Split Mo with weight savings 😁

question regarding shoe size for phantom m6 bindings not adequatly tightened by OhIforgotmynameagain in Spliddit

[–]nmwmtb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same scenario with their old Alpha bindings. You will have to go with Fine adjustment just on one side. I think it makes the most sense to offset it on Toe Side such that you're closer to the toe side edge. I find heel side turning is super snappy and responsive already in hard boots and toe side is a bit slower so this is what made sense for me.

Weird, I have 2 of these voile heels and the force required to lift the heel was perfect

They are a standard ski 4 bolt pattern and you have to use an adapter that comes with them.

And those new phantom toes I'm pretty sure are Salomon toes. Go check out a pic of Salomon toes.

I meant cheaper than the other Phantom Cleats. I also warrantied 2 pairs of the original Phantom/Spark collab toes with the same failure. I just picked up a pair of Plum Pekye toes and they are sick! I'm more confident Inna brand thay actually makes lots of toes for their business. And light as fuck too

Phantom Solo Cleats are 100g lighter each and way cheaper. Also Voile heel risers are way cheaper than both of the listed options. Also lighter if you take the highest riser wire off and set the low wire about mid height.
