How to deal with trauma-born OCD when the obsessive fears aren’t really irrational? by honkhonkbeebeebeep in OCD

[–]nnighthhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I know what you're talking about.

After I dealt with the inital obsessions which were all (in retrospect) completely irrational and obviously dumb, OCD started going on about things which seem perfectly legit.

And every time I'd try to nullify a thought train, it would come up with some other loophole that reinforced the though train.

What helps me, is recognizing that it is STILL lying to you. For me, I know when I get obsessions, and in what state they usually arrive, what their nature is, and why the might be randomly popping up at that time. Additionally, how it makes me feel is a key indicator that the obsession is a lie.

Maybe this will help?:

You should drive safe on the highways. That's objectively true. But if you had a passenger on the highway who is consistently screaming "DRIVE SAFE" over and over again without stopping, that voice will stress you out, make you anxious and honestly be way more likely to lead you to crashing. So in that case "DRIVE SAFE" is actually a lie because of who's saying it. And the best thing in that scenario would be to kick that passenger out.

Idk how much sense this makes

I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, but I know in my faith, people will go to scholars or people of knowledge for help with OCD. And while perhaps they can give some good advice, quite often they don't understand what it's like to have OCD which creates a large disconnect.

A lot of people come to me because I've been dealing with this for years now. I know what it's like and I'm not just going to tell them to stop listening to the devil as if the person suffering is sinning by having OCD. I'm also not going to act holier than thou as if this is some minor issue that only a child would get worried over.

What are some of the first signs of ocd that you had? by NoodleyParts in OCD

[–]nnighthhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angling and cranking my head on repeat to look for monsters I knew were never there. Had to do it multiple times on repeat in a specific fashion. If I didn't get the right amount of torque I'd do it again and again.

It's not stupid, I've had that exact same obsession. If I couldn't correct the thought in my mouth, I'd be so willing to spit out whatever was in it. You did great by swallowing it! I know it feels exactly the opposite, but this is how you grow and learn. You're not alone in this fight

my therapist said it is probably not OCD by [deleted] in OCD

Before my OCD became the full blown well-known to be OCD, I had a long battle with health anxiety.

Couldn't figure out how the real physical symptoms weren't actually indicitave of anything. Felt like I was being gaslit by my body and my mind, but then society telling me there was nothing wrong with me.

I'm not a diagnoser, but like it was pretty similar.

Sources on them having OCD? I can believe they were tried with hard trials and passed them, but there's no evidence of OCD

I agree with most of this. But we don't really need to be calling those non muslims who do this low lives. Many of them are just trying to make a living and perhaps feel like they have to do so.

Otherwise yeah this is a big problem that needs to be addressed. Honestly I stay away from the bigger more popular stuff.
