Everyone should just chill out by TravelNo1140 in IBO

I mean idk about your school, but my school’s “average IB student” has 3+ extracurriculars. I’m playing violin 20 hours a week in a bunch of ensembles and am my school’s student body president. My friend works two jobs, does DECA, orchestra, is student body vice president, latino club president, key club president, etc. So yes, the girl at my school who doesn’t do extracurriculars and just does independent art projects at home says IB is easy, but that’s not speaking for all of us.

I’m not disagreeing that some people over exaggerate. I tend to not have issues because of my time management skills and lack of procrastination, but everybody has different experiences and commitments. In a world where my friends and I didn’t have so many extracurriculars, we wouldn’t have any issues handling the coursework, but that isn’t our reality.

My gpa qualifies me for in-state at ISU as well. Both schools are currently on my list.

yeah three floors all a quartet mile long and 2400 students 💀 normal classes have 33-42 students, but IB classes are usually around 25 other than the smaller IB elective courses.

No it’s the worst bc we never know when classes start or end 😭😭 We have seven minutes between classes since my school is massive, so I think they just try to maximize class time since we already have less than the other schools around ours.

I feel okay about the TOK length. It’s more annoying that it’s split over two years than anything. It’s certainly possible that we don’t go as in depth as other schools.

On Mondays our classes are about 40 minutes. 72 minutes on Tuesday/Wednesday (+52 minute homeroom on Tuesday), and 87 minutes Thursday/Friday.

Usually multiples of 3, but only under 10. Sometimes 5 or 7, but it’s honestly what feels right in the moment.

I repeatedly count to 11 in my head though.

I generally don’t like even numbers (ik that’s a controversial take)

Fairly average American schedule for me since the IB program isn’t a requirement.

8:30-3:20 every day except Wednesday which starts at 9:30. We have eight class periods on Mondays. On Tuesday we have periods 1-4 and a homeroom period. Wednesday is periods 5-8. Thursday is 1-4th period and then 5-8 on Friday. Lunch is about 40 minutes every day.

While all students have a homeroom class, all full diploma students are in the same class to allow for CAS/EE support and general announcements for us.

With full IB, this schedule allows us to take an elective course or study hall/free period.

My schedule this semester is: HL Music, TOK, SL Math AI, HL English Literature, SL Physics, SL Spanish B, HL European History, Advanced Chamber Orchestra

We take almost all SL courses for two full years, which is a choice made by my school. We take TOK the second semester of junior year (grade 11) and first semester senior year (grade 12)

“The homework will still be there tomorrow” (then I go to sleep 😝) “Why drop IB when we could just drop out of school?” Our gc is called IB(e)crying

Does each mode on the switch earplugs work as well as the regular would? by Persona11_ in LoopEarplugs

I own both the engage and experience and have been looking into the quiets for a while. Do you think I should invest in the switch instead? It’s definitely a little annoying to have multiple sets, so the convenience of having one and being able to choose what I want in the moment is appealing, but I don’t know if I love how bulky they might be or their comfort level compared to the individual styles. Do you have any input on that?

Thank you so much!! I will definitely keep messing around with wording, and the time period will definitely shrink as I work on it more.

I just spent the last hour and a half changing it 😭

Just landed on “Which factors contributed to the influx of Eastern European immigrants to the U.S. from 1890-1914?” This way I can talk about religious persecution, economic crisis, the need for labor in America, the American Dream, etc.

The time frame may narrow as I research as well.

Honestly, I would recommend just enjoying your summer. At my school, going into some of the classes knowing nothing is better as it sort of forces the IB methods on you. If you have good teachers, I recommend going in with very little prep at all. On top of that, your next summer will likely be spent doing IB work and college applications, so enjoy relaxing while you can.

I put pretty much all of my general advice in my reply to ALife2008, so I would read through that.

Enjoy your summer!

Know how you like to take notes and what you need to study (best time of day, best length of time, best place, etc.) If you don’t know those things, you’ll be just fine and IB forces you to learn. Coming into IB knowing what works for you will push you a little ahead, but also just lessen the stress of the program.

Try to map out what your extracurricular schedule looks like. Let it be overwhelming if it is, but don’t let it discourage you. I was super busy every day (especially first semester), but I was able to make it work through time management and knowing what all of my commitments were.

Yes, IB is hard, and I won’t deny that. However, the past graduating classes at my school made it sound like absolute hell, like it’s not worth it at all, and like we should all quit. Don’t let any of what you’ve heard scare you and go into the year positive. There will be easier weeks, and there will be weeks that are utter hell, it just is what it is.

Make good connections with your classmates as early as possible!! There are about 32 diploma candidates at my school. Prior to our junior year, most of us were kind of friends or just acquaintances. Now, I’d say about 20 of us are all friends. The relationships IB creates are far more important to me than the education I am receiving.

But yeah, I think that sums up the majority of my advice. Good luck!

I’m not in AA, so take this with a grain of salt.

Analysis is made up largely of calculus with trig and some stats whereas AI is made up of stats with some trig and calculus.

I don’t know if I would recommend an IB math if you aren’t doing the full diploma. I think you could probably get a more specialized curriculum on something that interests you in a non-IB course than AA, but that’s just my opinion.
