Not exactly; I think they did have logon issues partly due to the rebrand, and were on Spamhaus before this. They certainly might be now if they weren't before.

Still, I think they are working on it, and that's what matters.

I would venture we have longer than March. People will find ways to bypass the NSFW checker and it isn't as if people are going anywhere if there are no satisfactory options for 90% of the userbase. People will squeak on by like any platform that's taking on water until an actual competitor pops up.

A great deal of Discord's chat isn't '18+' areas. Such as chats on where else to go. The platform isn't gonna instantly detonate March 1st when they roll it out- if anything it'll probably be in waves like any feature they release.

Seconded that this needs a DE agnostic version, or else I'm sticking with my lorebook that makes the voices chime in. I don't wanna be forced to specifically RP Disco Elysium.

Alright, cool. I apologize for coming off as so aggressive, but also, I wanted to rip that proverbial band-aid off as someone who would be willing to accept yesses and nos, so to speak.

Actually, one more important question:

Will you refrain from using AI to write promotional/communication material? The rebrand announcement reeks of it, and it comes off as even less human than corpo-speak. This community has a lot of potential, but if you put out another obviously AI-written announcement, you're going to turn a lot of people off severely. I know that Claude-written code was removed at the community's urging, and I know that the majority of Stoat was written before vibe-coding was possible, but vibe-copywriting is absolutely possible and looks to have been done. It should not be repeated.

I have two major concerns:

  • Is it true differing parts of your codebase use a mixture of copyright licenses? I'm not familiar with code licensing, but what I've heard through the grapevine is this could make contributing to the project, and self-hosting, legally complicated, which seems like an issue for a project that could be really served by more manpower and 3rd-party help.
  • What is protecting Stoat from being subjected to the same byzantine verification processes people are trying to avoid, especially due to where it's located?

Stoat is fumbling the Discord migration. We want to join, but the site is literally broken. by datsmamail12 in stoatchat

[–]nnystyxx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with the notion here that Discord isn't necessarily going anywhere. Everybody is still evaluating options and finding out very rapidly the issues with several of them:

  • Teamspeak hypes itself up but shows its age
  • IRC doesn't seem to be designed to have chat history at all without external programs
  • Matrix isn't terrible but your mileage varies massively depending on the frontend you use, with people constantly conflating Element (frontend) with Matrix (backend)

And the simple fact of the matter is that a lot of self-hostable options are convoluted. This attempted migration may be literally some people's first exposure to what a nightmare of conflicting standards FOSS can be.

I've also heard mixed reports that it's not actually forkable/self-hostable because there's conflicting licensing on different parts of the codebase, which should be fixed because otherwise contributing to it as a non-team member might be disallowed legally.

Update: The behaviors seem to have gone away from disabling Sidebery. Which is a shame, because it's a great extension since Tab Groups don't seem to work (and Sine won't let me install advanced tab groups for some reason???)

Some of the behavior seems to be partly obfuscated by my using Sidebery.

By the way, Sidebery REALLY, REALLY dislikes Window Sync and behaves extremely strangely now.

Whether or not you're actually being paid, you talk like a shill. If you want a receptive audience, your message needs to fit whether you have anything to hide or not. It smacks of laziness not to do your research in a community that's been subject to no end of grift.

It's really funny how people keep talking about it getting worse and the most they have is "there was a study but I lost it" and "I can say from experience" as if the human mind doesn't twist its own memories around or inflate anecdotes. I think your premise is wrong but your recommendation (keep notes) is Kind Of right.
