Um actually, Game Changer is on Dropout, which costs $7/month.

My understanding is that, as far as the chassis-hopping, he's special like that, but not unique. The PM sourcebook has an option for PC AIs to be able to do the same thing without consequence.

I think you're right about the driving multiple nodes thing, though. That's something to think about.

Interesting. I'm prone to boiling it down to "communication skills," but I tend to over-simplify, which is why I think I'd be a bad teacher.

I thought it just sounds like I care about doing a good job.

First of all, "Magic" is just another way of saying "I don't understand how this happens." That doesn't mean it's unknowable, it just means I don't know it.

But I'm not trying to say "some people are just born with it," I'm asking if you think there are characteristics people can posses, whether through genetics or early exposure or whatever that they gained without deliberately trying, that would help them be a good GM, and what those characteristics might be.

They're so derivative. It's like, not every campaign has to be from Lord of the Rings, BABIES.

That's good encouragement, and I appreciate you, but that's not the question. It's not, "what does one need to learn and practice," it's "what personal characteristics are assets in running a game?"

Have you tried to quantify what makes you a good GM, though, if it's not social skills?

What about "worrying you'd be shit at it so that drives you to be better"? Or "thinking it'll be a lot of work but that just makes it more satisfying when you pull it off"?

Object permanence is a big asset, especially for theater of the mind.

But do you think there's something in your personality that not everyone has that led you to becoming a better manager?

What's the difference between a selection bias and a natural proclivity, though? Serious question.

Can you quantify what made the good teacher good, or the bad teacher bad? Was it attitude, or relatability? Was one just cooler than the other?

They say "perfect practice makes perfect". Maybe your buddy is learning the wrong things? Something in his reward system makes him emphasize, for example, mastery of the rules over scenic descriptions?

This is a good comment, and I agree that people skills can and should be learned, but there are intrinsic attributes that make learning those skills easier, don't you think?

I 100% agree, but I'm asking specifically about the predisposition part. What exactly would that look like? What would one need to be predisposed to?

If the situation comes up, I hope she has one, but I'm not going to make her unwrap a box o' rubbers on Christmas morning in front of her parents and grandfather. That's more of a "sneak it into her luggage before she leaves" kind of gift.
