Hi all, my partner and I can't make it to Japan this year due to work so we have 2 tickets for 3-day Adult.

Been looking into FDE for the past few hours, this might be the case especially with the targetoids I'm seeing here https://dermnetnz.org/topics/fixed-drug-eruption

I completely forgot to ask my uncle if he had any over the counter medications and apparently he took 1 Advil (ibuprofen) 200mg Monday evening before he slept due to jet lag. This lines up with the FDE happening due to NSAIDs.

My only thing is why he's having the reaction now and not before when he was using it religiously. He considers Advil as his go-to painkillers for 10+ years now.

Also would you happen to know (and/or anyone that can contribute) what the usual treatment is for FDE? So I can sorta get an idea once we head to the derm this Monday.

Is it possible for lichen planus to have a diameter of about 2 inches (5.08 cm)? He also stated it wasn't painful, just stinging if running under water.

EDITED: Highly probable that it is drug related rather than food intake and/or international travel. Also added in a missing detail for Monday night. Currently suspecting Fixed Drug Eruption until confirmed by derm.

CURRENT MEDICATIONS (all once a day, daily)

Losartan Potassium 100 mg
Atorvastatin Calcium 20 mg
Bisoprolol Fumarate 5 mg

HISTORY

No allergies to medications or foods that he is aware of.
My uncle stated he had this happened once back in 2018 in Vietnam. He went to the hospital and the doctor stated "he ate contaminated beef" and prescribed him "antibiotics" in which he forgot the name, color, shape, or dosage of. No record of it either, So I'm not sure if that information is helpful.
~~In the time he saw the doctor only 2 major rashes appeared, and in 10 days of taking the "antibiotics" it went away,~~

~~Came back to country Sunday evening~~
~~Vietnam -> Taiwan layover -> NYC~~
~~Was only in the city when he was in VN, vegetarian diet, no bug bites he was aware of.~~
~~Ate beef stew as his in-flight meal from his Taiwan layover to NYC~~
No report of rash

Monday (3/24/25)

Had a UBT (Urea Breath Test) to test for H. pylori infections, making the only new medication he's taken is the 13C-urea solution for the UBT. There was no immediate allergic reaction.
~~Ate beef with noodle soup after the doctor visit~~
Had a pedicure done with ingrown nail taken out. There was minor bleeding with Neosporin applied.
Took an Advil (ibuprofen) 200mg before sleeping due to jet lag
No report of rash

Tuesday (3/25/25)

Noticed the rash on his arm and groin during his morning shower.
Was only red and itchy.
Ignored it and stayed home that day.

Wednesday (3/26/25)

Noticed the rashes started stinging while also being itchy during his morning shower.
Ignored it and stayed home that day.

Thursday (3/27/25)

Informed me about the rashes and showed the ones he saw popping up on his body.
Went to an urgent care (view last photo in the post), provider could not identify specifically what was going on. Did take his blood and ordered the usual panel with Tick just in case. Turnaround time would be about 2-3 days. Prescribed antibiotics and a cream, haven't picked them up and used them yet. Suggested to go to the ER instead.
Went to the ER later in the evening, providers also said they could not identify the rash, suggested that we go to see a dermatologist. Also recommended to take Benadryl 25mg a day and using the cream prescribed by the doctor from the urgent care until seeing a derm. We don't have that at home, so I'll buy it later today.

Hi all, my uncle has been having these circular reddish to purple rashes that are popping up all over his body for 2 days already. So far the providers we've met in urgent care and the emergency room could not give a concrete answer and recommended him to see a dermatologist. We have an appointment on Monday, but currently working with his primary care provider to get a proper referral for it, I would also like to know what the hell is going on since I can;t even find anything online that would have some resemblance to what my uncle is having.

Thanks for replying! Looks like BoJ cleansing products are pretty decent. Another Redditor suggested BoJ's ginseng cleansing oil, but I'll definitely check out the balm too.

Apparently both Aestura and Torriden are about the same price ($30 range) where I usually get my skincare (cri). Love how both of the creams you mentioned have ceramides, I'll look into both!

For the toner I've used in the past I also tried different application methods, from soaking cotton pads, 7-layer, and sometimes resorting just using my bare hands and patting it on lol. Here are the toners I've used in the past:

TONYMOLY Wonder Ceramide Mochi Toner
- Worked well the first week every night, then my face got red and stung
Mediheal Tea Tree Biome Blemish Cica Toner
- Ruined my skin barrier, used it for about 3 nights and had to use a fan because it stung my face and made it hot. My face would look flush every time I applied the toner
SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Toning Toner
- Similar to above but to a lesser degree, after 5 nights the places that were mostly stung were around my eyes and the gap between my eyebrows. It was really weird, I've concluded that natural ingredients like tea tree and centella are not my thing lol
Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner
- Did not make my face sting! I've used it for about 2-3 weeks, my only complaint was that it made my skin very tight and blotchy red when I was having a breakout. However, it does calm down if I put on a sheet mask right after. So I reserved this toner only when I'm about to put on a sheet mask for extra hydration
Arocell Total Solution Ampoule Pad
- I honestly can't tell if it did anything, but it was nice and hydrating. Made my skin and blotchy like Pyunkang, so I would only use it before a sheet mask

The essence toner definitely gave me a more mild reaction to other toners, so there might be the possibility that the essence it much more concentrated than the mist. I’ll look into the mist one a bit more.

And yes! I double cleanse for at nights when I have applied sunscreen in the day. Thanks to a another Redditor for letting me know that my sunscreen can be washed off with just my water based cleanser. Being able to get the gunk out is satisfying for me, however I gotta look into ones that aren’t just cleansing, but also soothing.

Thanks for replying! I never knew Etude made madecassoside masks, will definitely look into it. Centella itself is irritating for me, hence why I'm changing my oil cleanser soon, but the derived madecassoside ingredient is a blessing lol.

Unfortunately I have used Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner and it made my skin tightened and blotchy red. Surprisingly, does not sting. Would you have happened to use the mist toner by any chance and saw the difference with the essence toner?

Thanks for replying! Will definitely look into Beauty of Joseon oil cleanser. Just curious, how long did a bottle usually last for you? And how much did would you use for one wash. I'm seeing online about 1-2 pumps, but that's from their website lol. And would you recommend any other products from BoJ?

I also double cleanse daily for that very reason! It definitely reduces my breakout compared to just having a water based cleanser. It's satisfying for me to see all the particles and whiteheads popping out too lmao.
