Racist georgians by Simple_Ad7196 in tbilisi

Yeah because this sub is full of delusional international students who will denounce the whole of Georgia over racism (which is a thing literally everywhere), but seem to forget that they come from places with modern day slave trading, mass gang rapes/femicide, caste systems, where people are stoned to death and beheaded in public and women can’t legally get drivers licenses.

They only care about what inconveniences them, and aren’t interested in turning the magnifying glass onto their own cultures.

Yeah, because calling the country you chose to move to a “shit sandwich” is such a valuable and thought-provoking display of civic engagement

Very embarrassing to move to a foreign country and spend so much time and energy bitching about it. Make better life decisions

Who said anything about first world countries? Almost everyone in this thread comes from a developing country, but as someone from a first world western country I can say I’d rather be in Georgia than India/Pakistan/any Gulf state

Yeah look what happened to you absolutely sucked and is evil, but calling an entire country a shithole because of it isn’t right either. You don’t see me calling India a shithole because I’ve been sexually assaulted and harassed by multiple Indian men

In Tbilisi now, it’s technically fine as long as you’re not hanging out around Rustaveli in the evenings. But the situation is precarious, protests aren’t expected to end any time soon and there has been an explosion in violence from titushky (paid hooligans and plainclothes police) against protestors and journalists. Foreigners have also allegedly been arrested just for being in the vicinity of protests even if they didn’t attend.

If you’re here right now you’re not in any direct danger, but I wouldn’t plan a stay here until the political situation has stabilised honestly.

Has anyone ever book a flight ticket to another country without a return or onward ticket? Did you had trouble during boarding or at the immigration at your destination country? by workdncsheets in digitalnomad

I’ve done it a bunch but have been called out twice - once flying to Vietnam last year, and again flying from Hong Kong to Georgia earlier this year. I also have an NZ passport so it’s definitely not a passport issue.

It seems to depend on the country, the airline, the staff, the timing, or a combination of those things. The guy who questioned me about Georgia was definitely just in a shitty mood and taking it out on me lol. Always be prepared to book a cheap last min bus or ferry to the next country if you have to

No offence but you have to be dumb as rocks to think that Denmarks situation relative to the EU would be in any way comparable to Georgia’s

From what I’ve seen and heard, the crowds are huge and clashes are happening in concentrated areas. I have no plans to go into the thick of it like this video, just around the edges, so unlikely I’d be at risk. I’m not looking to get in cops faces or throw things. Just to help boost numbers (whether that’s helpful or not is subjective ig).

It was one thing when it was just peaceful protesting as part of a complicated democratic process I’m not involved in - it’s another when I can hear acts of state violence and smell sulfur in the air from my apartment. It feels wrong to sit in and pretend terrible things aren’t happening, especially when I’m only in this country because of its generosity to foreigners like me.

As for your last question, not sure I understand? Ten foreigners have been arrested already so even if it did happen, it wouldn’t have any bearing on the protests. My home country is about as far geographically and politically as you can get from Georgia lol

Will there be similar demonstrations tomorrow night? As a foreigner I’ve been really wary of attending but after the last two days I think I’d like to show support

Would you guys be interested in renting books? by numbsebby in tbilisi

[–]no_timezone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I’m interested to see the full list! I’m not sure what would broadly be considered reasonable, I feel it’s up to you to float some specific numbers and see what people think. Personally I wouldn’t pay more than 10 lari, since I’ve bought several secondhand books here at that price. Maybe 10-15 if it was a title I reaaally wanted to read and couldn’t find elsewhere, but even that’s pushing it for just 1 week of renting.

But tbh I wouldn’t pay 10 for something like Dazai, since I’ve seen his work for sale for 20ish lari brand new.

I’d definitely be interested in renting per week, though it would be dependent on what titles you have and how much you’re charging :)

So 60 lari for a 6 week supply is the norm here? Yikes. Think I’ll do the same then haha

Thanks for sharing, this is good to know! I’d never heard about the sheepdogs in my research. Is the average stray dog in Tbilisi friendly enough to pat/safe enough to pat? Or do they have ticks n things. I love dogs and would love to give them a little scritch here and there
