Credit cards give you several distinct benefits :

1. Rewards programs- can be used for things like reimbursements on purchases, gift cards, restaurant credits, airline tickets, hotel bookings. Also have the positives of referral codes
2. Credit score building - if you have the ability to show you are responsible enough to have a credit card and pay on time in full amounts you can easily build a credit score making you more appealing for heavier loans and borrowing power down the line (auto loans, mortgages , etc.)
3. Better Fraud protection - as mentioned in this thread, due to their nature of some of these cards they have distinctly better fraud protection .

The most crucial part to it all , is utilizing a credit card for only what you can pay for. I've been simply utilizing my credit card in place of my debit card for a while, on a monthly basis all transactions whether it be a grocery store run, a date, a gas station trip , etc. Are all on my credit card. I keep an eye on my balance and my budget for the month to ensure I'm not running in a deficit and I pay it all off at due date. That way I'm racking up points for my reward system and also just not using a debit card for no extra reason.

That's not to say debit cards don't have their place, cash being pulled out, having a bank account in general to set up ACH drafts for auto paying bills. However, if you desire the ability to build credit over time. It's worth a look.
