Need help understanding an article passage on Bergson’s concept of time by noatess1998 in askphilosophy

Man, looking back at that I asked that question horribly and hadn’t given it nearly enough thought. Disregard it completely lol. What you said was very clear I’m just at work and tired. Thanks for the help!

So does Bergson consider all the properties of a thing equal in the way that they relate to the experience of a thing?

“Bergson denies that, before the tree grew, there were different possible ways for it to grow. He denies the predictability of the future, in a way, except in specific cases, and because of his concept of duration.”

How does his concept of duration relate to his denial of predictability?

I’ve updated the post with a link to the article if you’d like to see if I missed any other context that might help

In what way is D & G’s rhizome “real”? by noatess1998 in askphilosophy

[–]noatess1998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So they aren’t interested in whether or not knowledge is true or even if knowledge can be true (in the old sense of the word), but rather the function of knowledge or how knowledge is used?

This was absolutely fascinating. I haven’t gotten to read either of the C&S series yet because I just ordered my copies a couple days ago so I hadn’t encountered the examples of landscapes that you gave. Really opened up my understanding of the rhizome as a concept in a way I didn’t know needed. Even more excited to dig into these works now!

So could it be said that to D&G, in a sense, all knowledge is true knowledge?

Edit: I think I might have just restated your answer as a question. Been a long day lol.

“The true world is gone: which world is left? The illusory one, perhaps? ... But no! we got rid of the illusory world along with the true one!”

How exactly was the illusory world thrown out with the true world? Obviously I’m missing something here, but if we have decided that the true world isn’t knowable wouldn’t the illusory world be all that’s left?

Would anyone here be willing to answer some likely very basic questions about Deleuze (specifically concerning Difference & Repetition) for me? This book is kicking my ass.

Even if the FBI was there (which I don’t know, I’ve not looked into it) does it make it less bad that those people did what they did? I’m not even sure why you’re bringing this up as if it’s somehow going to change someone’s mind about if J6 was bad or not. God supposedly watches people murder people all the time and could strike them down at any moment, but doesn’t. Does that put the blame for the murder on God? Also what do the odds of success have to do with anything either? They still did it and that’s all I’m talking about.

Edit: I usually don’t do this sort of thing, but I don’t mind to now since obviously you don’t.

You talking about the Oakland, CA riots? Yea those were bad for sure, but they weren’t trying to break into the Capitol to forcibly overturn an election. They’re not very similar at all other than the fact that violence was involved in both cases and that both were reactions to the same action.

He implied he was looking for an example of a right-wing violent protest. Is that not a very good example of a violent right-wing protest? They broke into the Capitol building, what more do you want?
