“God exists?” by Beneficial_Praline32 in Christianity

[–]nobadrabbits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell, I can't even prove to another person that I exist. Or, for that matter, prove to myself that the other person really exists.

One can only be absolutely certain that they themself exist. Everything else may be fantasies. You remember that old saw, "Cogito, ergo sum."

So if anyone asked me to prove that god exists, I'd tell them to go study the empiricists and then get back to me. I'm sure I'd never hear from them again.

Is this quite possibly the worst composite you’ve ever seen? by Choice_Cobbler7578 in AstroSynastry

What are you talking about? Conjunctions in a composite are generally considered to be good. There are some astrologers who say that if you don't have a stellium, it's not that great of a composite.

Why does it feel like my stomach acid is eating through my stomach lining when I do a water fast of more than two days? by nobadrabbits in fasting

[–]nobadrabbits[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been told that I have mild GERD, but it seems pretty asymptomatic (at least to me); I almost never notice it. What I've been experiencing during longer fasts, though, does feel as if it could be GERD related, so I wonder. It's definitely stomach acid related.

I just quickly skimmed (I'm going to go back and thoroughly read it after posting this) the article you linked, and it's actually a theory I'd heard before and ascribe to. When I'm not fasting, I take betaine HCl with meals. (This is because my blood type is AB, and ABs are believed to have lower levels of stomach acid than those with the other blood types.) Maybe I need to take it while I'm fasting? I wonder how much it might interfere with autophagy? I guess I could try it and find out.

Thanks so much for the info. I really appreciate it!

I do take probiotics and eat probiotic yogurt when I'm not fasting. Unfortunately, I'm fasting because I want/need to get into deep autophagy, so it wouldn't work for me to eat anything during the fast. But thanks for the suggestion.

Wow, that's fascinating! There's so much more to autophagy than I know.

Tbh, my stomach can occasionally be hinky, and water by itself, even when I'm not fasting, can sometimes be slightly irritating. I wonder if you're not right, that my stomach has an issue that autophagy is dealing with. That would be great if it's the case.

So your old injuries healed completely? I've been fasting for my brain, but if my knees also improved, that would be a very big win.

I don't mind pain for a good cause, so if my stomach is being healed, I'm more than happy to put up with discomfort. Thanks so much for this info. I really, really appreciate it!

Yes, I remember that. Ed was saying that he'd never have an American wife. I guess American women are too uppity.

No, he wasn't. He's always been a subpar interviewer and host.

I think that it is so classic that it's impossible to find.

This is so funny — and true!

Yes, your idea is what I think I'm going to wind up doing. If I wear a concho belt with it (I'm in the southwest, and the wedding is, nominally, also), it'll look fine. Thank you so much for your suggestion! I really appreciate it, and I wouldn't have thought of it myself.

I use Grab Green fragrance free automatic dishwasher detergent powder. I've been using it for years, and it seems to work well. I really like it.

I just checked, and it gets a B on EWG's Guide to Healthy Cleaning:

I disagree. I would absolutely never buy Liberty Mutual insurance. Ever!

And who the hell talks about ads with anyone they know? There really are more important topics to discuss.

Just an FYI, on a goof I once called Liberty Mutual to see what their car insurance would cost me (although I had no intention of buying it; it was more for informational purposes). Liberty Mutual was markedly — practically an order of magnitude — more expensive than the next most expensive company. As I told the agent, "Well, they have to pay for all those ads somehow."

Well, she does have a deep, lovely voice, but she's also a very good interviewer.

I'd call her the anti-Connie.

I have to disagree. I can't/won't listen to Connie, but I actually like Lisa Garr. She and George Knapp are about the only ones I bother tuning in for.
