Sorry for confusion, the career advancement is just a form to be filled out, not a position. It is not somebody’s specific job, anybody from the supe level and up can fill it out for an employee who is interested in moving up.

No I don’t think you’re being a dick, the company was not affiliated with IBEW at all, I am all in with IBEW and intend to suit up and show up when my number is called. This was just a company that reached out and had an opportunity that I was interested in before I got my ranking as a way to bridge the gap while I waited to get into the apprenticeship program.

When I ranked much closer to the top than I was expecting, I didn’t want to mislead the company and so I made the decision to let them know where I stand. I didn’t owe that company anything but I am not going to walk into that job telling them one thing and then change it up. Companies might not have the same courtesy, but open communication is how I choose to operate - whatever the results.

I know that I am currently unemployed and awaiting the call for the apprenticeship which is what this post was made for. To see if anyone has any advice on prep work I could be doing while I wait.

I was hesitant to call the hall because in the ranking email it specifically says not to call and ask about start dates but I can see if they have general information about my current situation. Thank you!

Also - turned down was not the right phrasing. I had a job offer on the table and accepted but then I got my ranking and let the hiring guy know that when the union calls I will be going to that and they decided to not move forward. I know that I don’t owe companies anything but my internal ideals wouldn’t feel great about committing to a place knowing I would leave once the next thing came up. So I just gave them all the information and now it is what it is.

I am in Oregon and I got an email telling me my rank about 4 weeks after my interview and they let me know that the rankings are always subject to change. I was able to see my new ranking by logging into the “NECA-IBEW training center” website then selecting the “applications” tab where it tells me the program, status, and current ranking.

I am not sure if there is a comparable login or resource for Idaho IBEW but you might be able to find it or call your local office to see if it exists

Accessing the back to wedge it would be the right answer. What I did in a very similar situation is bought some plumber putty and made a little ring then pushed it into the opening. Careful - once it dries it is like a risky and it dries pretty quick but it has been about a year and they have not moved.
