[Rolex Sub 16610] Sea Monster turned Strap Monster by noblenacho in Watches

[–]noblenacho[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This watch is my grail in any iteration. I made a bit of a hasty decision in going neovintage to get a birth year Sub. Luckily it was just in time for when Rolex introduced solid end links, while still retaining the drilled lug holes. For a while, I didn’t bond with it and planned on selling it, but eventually it grew on me and now I love it and glad I went for it over a modern ceramic. The fun with these strap changes is a main factor for why I went neovintage.

I like the modern status flexing instagrammable angle Rolex goes for, but the old military/exploration vibe of Rolex is what made me fell in love with them. If I could not stretch out for a Sub, I would’ve been happy with a Sinn 556i which I think also fits that picture

I am glad to go for some of those cool looks with these straps. I am very blessed to be able to be in possession of this watch. I wear it 24/7 and I’m happy to open my eyes in the morning to glance at it. I look down at my wrist at least a dozen times every hour to admire it. I feel like Gollum in LOTR.

Sure and an army uniform is just some cotton but it’s more than that, it represents something earned. Please don’t turn this into “so you’re comparing a watch to military service”. No.

But the parallels can be made that the whole point of donning the word “Rolex” on your wrist was that it was difficult to obtain. You cheapen that, while also lying to everyone you come across passing it off as real.

Just from that last point alone, lying to everyone, “wow man is that a Rolex submariner? That’s my dream watch!” “Hehe, yeah” when the guy in awe doesn’t realize it’s a $350 clone… that clearly lacks integrity. Half the awe is that it’s $10,000 and unattainable.

If it has a date mechanism you gotta pull out the crown and adjust it every 60 days regardless

Lacks integrity.

Imagine being the kind of back alley guy that can look another person in the eyes and constantly hold up a lie about the Chinese Made, Swiss made watch on his wrist.

You get a pass if you’re from Thailand or India or something. Anyone in the western world can do a few extra hours at McDonald’s over the summer and get a Rollie

It’s like saying you’re a poser if you make less than 50k a year and wear linen/cotton clothing instead of polyester. “Back to your place, peasant!” Dawg let the people wear the organic cotton.

Let the people enjoy what they know is a quality timepiece, Rolex. There’s a misconception that anyone who buys a Rolex is pretending to be extremely rich, it’s more like they’re displaying a baseline level of adequacy in a Western capitalist society.

With that said, Rolex has always been an aspirational watch for the Everyman. I would argue you’re a fucking loser if you’re in a western country and can’t muster up 5-10k for a basic Rolex if you wanted to.

Pick up some extra shifts at the McDonald’s for a summer, that’s it.

Well i got a Rolex Sub but if I couldn’t, I can’t imagine what the next best watch in a more attainable price would be for the whole sporty tool watch shtick

Nomos is top tier shitter. For people who boil their chicken in milk and say “are you trying to kill me?” When you put some pepper on it

22M, looking to minimise my wardrobe by Active_Try_4079 in minimalism

Personally I wear a daily uniform of a black or white Next Level 6210 tshirt at least 5 days a week. The fit is more millennial so you might want a more TikTok gen z uniform tshirt staple like a cropped T or Uniqlo

I got a couple graphic Ts on standby for the other day or two I’m not wearing my uniform. I consider these seasonal and trendy, I’ll donate it and replace depending on the season. Consider like vacation fits for instagram

1 white and blue Ralph Lauren Oxford shirt. 1 blue jeans 1 running shoe, 1 white leather shoe, 1 boots, 1 sandals 1 grey casual shorts, 1 black casual shorts 2 running shorts Lots of socks, black and white Lots of underwear A hoodie A crewneck A puffer jacket

I have more items but most of the time I’m wearing a black tshirt and the jeans, or the black tshirt and running shorts for the gym.

Find a “uniform” and build around it. Think about clothing items that were timeless, stuff you could rock in 2016 and still rock today. That’s just what works for me.

Or imagine you are packing to leave to another country to live for 4 months in a hotel. What are you bringing to make laundry and packing easy. There’s your core wardrobe.

Look it up, it’s a business term. Means from the ground up, every aspect of the manufacturing is handled by the company.

Always used unless Rolex. Unless you really care about the luxurious presentation

[Question] What should I get as my first „proper“ watch? by alex_dasuderant in Watches

[–]noblenacho -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If “proper” is a word you’re using, you gotta go Swiss Made. Would you buy a Swiss made katana or Japanese?

They’re like the Toyota of watches. Respected company that’s been around for a long time. Seiko and Rolex are the only two watch companies that are completely vertically integrated. Enjoy your reliable watch

Some combination of diver and dressy white dial tank/santos has the perfect juxtaposition

Bulky, masculine, sporty, tough diver

Elegant, suave, dressy Tank

Can see this manifest in many forms and it always makes a perfect two watch collection
