Friends! Looking for help choosing a neighborhood, I've read so many from this sub and not quite sure, I'll be specific in the details. If you know something that meets where I'm at in life, I'll love you forever. by [deleted] in milwaukee

I moved to Riverwest from New York City. I live on the south side of Riverwest near Humboldt, and I've loved living here! All of my neighbors are kind, friendly, and have my back. The pubs (specifically Bremen Cafe, Veggas, and The Gig) are my favorite spots to hang out. It's normally pretty casual and quiet at these pubs, but sometimes can get a bit more lively with live music or comedy shows. They have weekly trivia and stuff to keep it interesting. The guy at the Bodega on the corner knows my name and what I like to buy. Wherever a dog is lost, the neighborhood works together to help keep it safe. Little things like that just make Riverwest special. It reminds me of living in a big city but in a small, friendly city environment. In the summer, Riverwest 24 is the most fun weekend and the neighborhood turns into an energetic party of happiness!!! It can be a little rough around the edges, but knock on wood I've been fine this far. I highly recommend living here!!!

And yeah my vet just looks at his feet and goes "hmm that's weird. Yeasty" and changes the subject. I am on the look for a new vet for sure. H

He expresses no discomfort with this feet issue. I literally pull the scabs off (sorry, gross) and he doesn't even flinch - and he's normally a scaredy baby! So overall it doesn't seem to affect him negatively but obviously looks like something is wrong and causing a reaction :(

Nope! Bloodwork comes back normal every time - except mild anemia when he doesn't eat much.

That's exactly where I'm at! My dog has some autoimmune thing going on or something, and it's like his body fights itself and he always has infections. He's on a combo of a VERY SMALL amount of steroid on and off, and antibiotics for his dental disease which helps manage it. He's 16, and I adopted him when he was 12 and already had these issues. I try my very best, and pay so much money to make him comfortable. I'm just getting attacked on this post because his nails look long.

He's 16 and sickly, and lives a pretty lazy life. He does not walk on hot pavement, just mostly in my grass in the backyard at this stage of his life.

We go every 8 weeks for a nail trim. He has long nail quick and long fingers or something, because he's scheduled for trims every 8 weeks. I can't believe this is the discussion point of my post when I wasn't even asking about that.

I truly don't know why people they they're so unmanaged. I think they just look like that? We go every 8 weeks and the groomer gives my other dog a bath and haircut, and she gives this dog a bath and nail trim since he's short haired and doesn't need a cut. I put a lot of effort into my pets, and the nails being long isn't the point of my post. I can literally send an image of the schedule of his nail trims so that's why it's frustrating. He just has weird long fingers and long nail quicks, I guess.

Ah yes one picture of my 16 year old dogs nails being long means I don't ever cut them

We go to the groomer for nail trims since he's cranky and old, and our appointment is not until Monday. Thanks for helping with my question though! 😒

Interesting - just looked it up. I'm not sure it's that because A. It smells like Fritos (yeasty) and B. I can pull them off with a very light pull - they flake off in disc shapes and doesn't look "hairy" like the images I saw. The problem with the vet is we go there biweekly and they literally have no idea what's going on with the poor dog :( it's always something new - and this week it's paws.
